Does anyone have a Doepher Dark Energy Synth?

If so, how does it stand up to something like a Tetra that's similarly priced?

I was all about this, until I found the price. For that much, i'll just put together the smallest Doepfer setup and have a 'real' modular that i'll start with.

You can actually get the Dark Energy synth in "modular" form. And it's a little cheaper. It's the "A-111-5" module.

I don't really consider the standalone version expensive myself though..

yeah it's cheaper but no usb/midi

i think one of the cool thinks about the dark energy is that you can use it as a simple midi to cv converter

and i agree about buying the individual parts and making up a modular system, seem more, expandable that way

If you have held a Dark Energy in your hands, you will know what it's about. Very well built, solid, dense, a different beast to a modular in terms of being able to put it anywhere in your setup physically, and moving it around, putting it on top of another synth and so on.

Yea, but for those of us that already have the CV/Midi (or just CV) then its totally cool. The modular part is tempting as a start.

I've got one and I love it to death.
It sounds really raw and fat for a one osc synth. It's a very aggressive little device.
Not very subtil but tasty !

i was also thinking about it, well built, nice knobs, but one thing - does oscilator produce only triangle wave?

I'm curious about this too.....I'm a bit confused by the oscillator's features. I'm playing with the idea of creating a relatively small polyphonic modular with three or four 111-5 modules and Doepfer's upcoming polyphonic midi-cv module......like a Vermona Perfourmer on steroids (and twice as expensive).

I think this would be insane in conjunction with my monomachine.

Neat little box but depending on your needs using the money towards starting a little euro modular might be a better use of money. You'll get a lot more ins and outs and functionality that way. Keep in mind this is a very basic synth on its own @$625

For a little bit more ($799) you can get a MFB Kraftzwerg (also euro style) that gives you a lot more possbilities, roughly the same functionality as a Moog Mini in modular format. 3 Osc, moog style filter, 2 LFOs, noise, ring modulator, 2 ADSRs... That's a shitload of power for the price. I'm using the MFB Synth II which is basically the same thing except not modular but with built in sequencer and patch saving. It's a very nice synth for the money, sounds lovely.

For the same functionality as the MFB you would have to buy 2 dark energy's and a couple additional modules...

Worth mentioning are the rumors that doepfer are also working on a matching, simple sequencer and possibly an expander.

EDIT: I should mention that while I havent had problems with my MFB Synth II, some people have mentioned issues with MFB stuff so the quality control might not be all that...

it has a square oscillator with pulse width modulation, you can turn it off by turning the pwm knob to max

then there is a 2nd saw/triangle osc on a three way switch, the centre position in off -

What I really liked about it from the audio demos I found was the filter. It sounds really good to my ears. A multi-osc version would be nice too.

And good luck selling a 2nd hand one for £353. You can get a brand new one from thomann.de for £340 Sorry.

Question

Can anyone post useful audio demos or links to some? I haven't found any. Something with high resonance, distortion, fast envelopes, etc. with no additional processing and not a horrible quality file, preferably lossless.

I'm thinking that too. May go well with my LP and CP-251. I'd just like to hear proper demos first.
