Its not the latest and certainly not the cheapest but is probably the best vst synth in that price.
Cameleon 5000 VST from Camel Audio , easily one of the best synths I have worked with during my decade of software only music production. Cameleon 5000 - Additive Synth - VSTi Instrument, Audio Units plugin

With Omnisphere version 1.1 there is a Light version that you can run that significantly reduces the amount of ram needed to run a patch. This will help users that don't have tons of ram or are not running in 64 bit yet.

Alchemy was released in September 2008.
If you insist on new and want something bright, Waldorf Largo might be of help, too.

didn't know about the light version.. I think Omnisphere has been around for about a year.. I have 6 GB on an 8 core mac pro and it isn't always enough.. depending on the instance count and all of that.. I've heard reports of memory leakage.. but don't know if that's been fixed

Yes just trying to be a little different with the newer sounds as they are alot brighter... Largo definitely seems to sit in this category. I find that a VST say such as Sylenthe is so warm but is starting to sound 'done' if you know what I mean.. I have a few analog such as Oberheim Xpander, SE1x, Juno106, so I am looking I think for something more brighter and cuttier. I have GForce Odditty, ImPoscar, Gladiator by Tone 2 and Rapture as my current VSTs.
Thanks!

I'll second the recommendation of ACE by u-he.
It's built for fidelity rather than efficiency--it can burn up a lot of cpu cycles. So don't go expecting the minimal cpu hit of something like Synth1. It can bring powerful processors to their knees... Which will have you on your knees--because the sounds it makes are quite wonderful. Zebra 2.5 from u-he was released in December. Zebra is much more efficient than acesynth and seems to attract a lot of talent on the part of preset designers.
So as far as latest and greatest goes, there you have it.

Thanks! | why do you have to refer to all software synthesizers as "VSTs" |

Pay what you want ($9.00USD minimum).
Sounds great.
Additive synth engine doing subtractive synthesis.

Yuk Vanguard has to be one of the worst ive heard!
I quite like that Waldorf Largo and thought Sylenth was nice and clean sounding. Zebra2 was another good one.
If i didnt have many hardware synths and the Sonic Core DSP system with many high quality synths those 3 would probably be my choice.
But overall im not a big fan of vst instruments.
Arturia and NI are the worst offenders imo because they have this way of manipulating people with lots of advertising and fancy graphics. Not a fan at all

Additive synth engine doing subtractive synthesis. | I may buy this just out of curiosity. 4 or 5 years ago I had this idea of emulating a subtractive synthesizer using an additive engine, where all the stages (oscillators, filter, amplifier, etc) were emulated by just messing with the partials. Unfortunately, I never had the time or drive to implement it myself. But it's exactly what Harmless seems to do. I have too many synths already and don't need another one (especially not a softsynth), but I have to see how the concept works out in practice.

Exactly and if you read my initial post, its about the latest 'VSTs' and why I want that is I use Cubase 5 on Mac and have used VST based technology, hence my request for VSTs. Since CUbase (Steinberg now Yamaha) invented the whole VST technology and since I have been a Steinberg user for almost 15 years, I use VSTs. Not TDM and not AU. VSTs.
eg. I am looking for a type of Soap. There are various types of soaps. But I get suggested Shower Gel instead. I do not use shower gel. Quote:

You may just have misinterpreted me. However, bigger picture tells me that most people get the idea here. Having said this, just a note that typically alot of Cubase users use VSTs. Traditionally and todate, based on the very advanced midi capabilities Cubase (along with Logic) have been on the forefront of midi and virtual instruments. So most people when mentioned VSTs do really get the bigger picture. I think you get the picture too why don't we just move forward. and if it feels so important that you have a final say for your own misunderstanding of my post, just go for it. But feel free to add a point or 2 on the latest VST's you may be aware of so atleast our conversation is productive. Thanks!
