I'm guessing it was a limited time deal.

I picked it up late last year and they had the 'pay what you want' option. I think it ended in late december.

For what it's worth, it sounds nice, if a little on the simple side.

Sounds great.

Additive synth engine doing subtractive synthesis.
Thank you, thank you endlessly!!! thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

Just tried it. The chorus is stellar!!! In Juno 60 range if not better. The sound is amazing. Engine is so simple yet so powerful. Can't take my hands of this thing. Reverbs are fantastic as well. My JD-990 will go to sleep. This is the ultimate ambient machine, along with Absynth.

(given it cost me just 10 bucks, it's the purchase of the year for me)

Coming from you, Don, that must mean something.

I got it for $10 as well, but haven't had the chance to really play with it. It's very clean sounding but can produce some interesting tones. I like it better than the Ultra Analog, actually.

All I have is Predator, Vanguard, Battery 3, and Future Audio Workshop Circle. Circle is what I've been using A LOT lately. Really good IMO.

Seems like this offer on the XILS 3 is still on:
XILS 3LE "No-Brainer" Deal from audioMIDI.com

To the people here who have it, what is your impression of how limited this cut-down LE version is compared with the full version?

Well, the presets suck big time - if that means anything.

But once you dig in - it will reward you with greatest sonic pleasures.

Yes, yes, and yes. I think I bought every one of those the day they were released.

None of those would qualify as "hip" or "new", but they're all very good at what they do and all are plenty capable of getting "new" sounds. I don't use Rapture as much as I used to for some reason, but Gladiator is one of my favorite soft synths and gets used frequently. Nexus gets used mostly for collabs - some of the guys I work with use it religiously, but I don't use it very often on my own tracks (and, no, not because it's a rompler - it just doesn't do it for me the way other synths do).

No memory leakage issues, but make sure you are running in either 64-bit or the new Memory Server in v1.2:

6gb is plenty!

You don't need new synths to get brand new sounds. What you need are powerful synths that are really versatile and get updated sound sets frequently.

Omnisphere is always getting new and up to the minute sound updates, we just released over 200 new patches and there are more coming!

The total library is now over 7,000 sounds:

Spectrasonics - Omnisphere - Sound Library

It's hard to imagine that you wouldn't find inspiring stuff within Omnisphere's huge and diverse library, but if you need something more customized, then of course it's one of the most powerful synths for creating your own sounds too. Check out the possibilities in this Masterclass Video:

ACE, Massive, FM8 the three musketeers.

You want stabs you could do it with Massive and that's made some time ago; layers, envelopes, compression and filters.. unless your buying for presets alone.

I can sense a need for the bullshit meter again if the the only way to go is to buy something just released for a particular sound unless it is totally unique like maybe Alchemy;

unless you just want to buy a new toy in which case fair enough.

Gotta give another vote to DCAM Synth Squad. I don't actually own it yet, but I had the demo and I absolutely love the way these sound. Definitely some top notch stuff. The versatility among the 3 synths is insane as well. Too bad it's such an insane CPU hog and I can barely run 2 synths in Fusor. 3 and it totally craps out..Oh well. Just gotta save money for that QuadCore I guess

I'm running 3 synths easily in FUZOR with a 3 Ghz dualcore...+ loads of other things....
And yes and yes versatility is the point...you can really do amazing things
with thoses synths...It's truly a new approach of routing possibilities...
I'm addicted to them.
