Your expectations from YAMAHA at Winter NAMM 2010 ?

Hello,

What are your expectations as far as new synths/keyboards/modules/workstations/..etc. from YAMAHA during the upcoming Winter NAMM 2010 show ?

I would love to see a new synths that offer :

Vector & FM synthesis ! Also, something new that is based on Physical-modeling technology would be very exciting. or possibly Virtual Analog technology with some type of analog circuit/tube output for a truly warm sounding VA synth, with complete DAW integration/editing.

I'm not sure if they will release the next generation Motif keyboard/workstation. We will have to wait and see.

A new VA synth !
A new FM synth !
A tenori-on for adults !
No more Motif !

Unfortunately, I know it won't happen !

Sad but true !

I truly doubt YAMAHA will venture into the Softsynth world.

But then, who knows, things can change.

Lots of things I'd like to see from Yamaha, but I don't expect any of them to happen.

Unfortunately, Physical Modeling and FM are total nonstarters for Yamaha these days.

Synth geeks like us love that stuff but the VL-1, VL-7 and FS1R all had dismal sales figures.

The only nod to Physical Modeling they seem to want to maintain is the VL70m which is a poor-sounding substitute for the VL-1. :(

Ever since they purchased Steinberg I've been waiting for them to come out with a great DAW interface...something along the lines of the Mackie MCU...maybe using some of their digital mixer technology.

As far as synths go, I don't think Yamaha have released anything "exciting" in a long while and the current crop of motif's/mm_ synths seem very blah to me. They are good for what they are made for but I would like to see something a bit flashy and exciting...sort of like the way the MS-2000 was for Korg.

I haven't heard a buzz about Yamaha's effects processors since the SPX-90. I'm sure there's a good reason for that. It might be cool if they have something new in that arena.

I still have faith in YAMAHA's innovative ability, and don't think it is too far fetched that they will excite us once again with something that's truly innovative and unique. They sure have the R & D capabilities, technological know how, financial muscle, and experience.

Oh, well, let's hope they don't focus on what I call 'Disposable Synths', which like a used pamper, Stinks big time. i.e. the so called, cheap and cheesy stuff, which has been quite trendy these last few years.

I'm putting my money on the long-awaited Yamaha Skiclavier finally coming out this year.
