How does Mopho's filter input compare to Sherman Filterbank?

I know the Sherman Filterbank is a beast in it's own league, but can the Mopho's filter input at least somewhat compare? It's only mono, but that's cool with me. The only demo I've been able to find for it is the one on the DSI page where they crush a live drum loop with it. I already want to buy a Mopho because of it's super fat bass and reasonable price, but just wondering how useful people have found that filter input to be. I mostly want to use it to mangle/distort/overdrive/crush samples and live percussion, just get some interesting new gritty sounds with some analog warmth. Is it really a bonus with the Mopho, or just a cheap gimmick they're using to further market the thing that no one actually uses? Thanks!

The input on the Mopho can make some amazing sounds, especially with the audio mod setup as you can get bitcrushing type effects out of it. I loved it, although in the end the Mopho didn't quite cut it for me, the Evolver kinda spoils it.

The Sherman is a much more flexible multimode filter, I don't think they can really be compared with any real seriousness. If you want a very colorful, aggro sounding filter effect, it will give you that. It's actually a lot harder to get more subtle filtering with it than extreme stuff, imo. The Mopho can do this to an extent but I think discrete vs. curtis chip has a lot to do with them sounding way different.

you could try a moog mf-101 and a distortion pedal or three. that would give you a more musical colors than a mopho imho

Yeah, it can be a PITA getting the Sherman to do subtle filtering.

Between the two though, no contest: Sherman. It's specifically made for the purpose and its discrete.

Yeah, I was using the mopho filter input live for a while ... it certainly made the sound of my microkorg more interesting, but I couldn't really get the step sequencer in the mopho to do anything very interesting to the sound ... I guess the evolver would be the way to go for that.
