Angry PLEASE HELP WITH MIDI on virus ti !!

Hello and thanks in advance.
I am trying to layer out midi tracks using my mpc2000xl and an access virus ti board and record on pro tools. Problem is when i try to make another midi track and change the patch on my board it changes the previous patch on the 1st midi channel. Therefore I can only really sequence 1 sound and not able to layer.???? I am gonna loose my mind real soon as i have tried everything. Any help would be super.

anything?? COuld it be that I am recording into pro tools via trs and not midi cables. I have the midi out of digi 002 into the mpc and a midi handshake between the mpc and the virus. Both audio from mpc and board trs into digi002.

my ti isn't plugged in (I know, the horror), but there is a multi button. try that. also, manual--sorry can't be more help. my stand alone ti memory is very rusty, last time i used it in standalone mode was well over two years ago. remember to save your mults/programs or whatever they are called.

it changes previous sound?

is your midi track sending a program change event?

if i recall, the workflow is -- setup part 1, assign midi channel, select program, save, setup part 2, assign midi channel, select program, save, etc.

makes me want to plug it in again.

I dont think its sending a change event,, how can a be sure? I disabled change events in single and multi.
Here is my work flow:
MPC set up track 1 midi channel.> rec> select sound of virus play out sequence> MPC repaeats it after 4 bars. Cool!
now I go on MPC select a new track for midi, so track 2 midi > still hear the previous sequence playing when i change the sound say to add a bass line the previous sequence doesnt remain, it changes aswell to the newly selected sound.

When i select multi on the virus it says INit Multi and just acts crazy with random patches playing the old sequence. I wish there was a step by step somewhere, the manueal doesnt really get into this. Im wondering if its really simple but I am possibly making this hard as i am not used to using midi.

sounds like you are changing multis and not parts. check out pg 154 then 152.

pg 154 is appendix and 152 is a blank page in my virus ti user manual. Maybe we have different books?

- In Multi mode, you have 16 parts, each one with the following parameters: patch number, MIDI channel, key range, volume etc. Press Shift+Edit to enter Multi edit mode where you can change these parameters for the current part. Press the Part buttons to change the current part (1 - 16)
- "Init Multi" is already set up so that part 1 is on MIDI channel 1, part 2 on MIDI channel 2 etc. You just need to select the desired patch for each part.
- Make sure that the tracks on MPC are assigned to correct MIDI channels (track 1 to channel 1, track 2 to channel 2 etc... unless of course you want several tracks to play the same part)
- Multi mode reference is on page 166 of the Virus TI User Manual.
- Good luck

For sequencing you have to start with a multi and not switch to it after recording your first part in single mode.
Multi is your friend.

Multi Prog. Change (midi 3/3)
>Disabled, Enabled: Specifies whether the MIDI message
“Program Change” will switch the entire Multi Mode pro-
gram if received on the global MIDI channel (see “Global
Channel” on page152).

Global Channel (midi 1/3)
>1 to 16: Specifies a MIDI channel used for SINGLE mode, as
well as for switching between MULTI mode programs via the
MIDI message “Program Change”.
