You're all wrong. The lead synth in TikTok is MUCH simpler than you think. Spend $20 and you can get that sound..

Watch - (3:45) DrLuke

Enjoy.

And yes, vintage sounds are back.

Clearly doesn't matter if you have a $5k synth or a $25 synth, if you can create a hook, thats fun, catchy, etc.. and have a vocalist with a distinctive sound along with top writers you have a hit. With that little toy keyboard he used, obviously hard wired into the thing, ran through a nice pre/DI and into converters at probably 96k, and eq'd, compressed, a touch of vibrato/chorus and you have that sound. He has an eclectic collection of high end vintage synths as well as toy ones, particularly Yamaha's..I know he has a PSR6 as well. The guy is just creative..

- Of course having Serban Ghenea mix his stuff doesn't hurt either

I saw this and thought about this thread...watch it, wait for it... diatonic 10th's (did someone post something about that? hmmm). Guaranteed that most of you don't know what that means, which goes back to the fact that more of you need to put down the synth and log some hours at the piano.

Maybe you saw the rest of the video where Dr. Luke played in the SNL house band for 10 years. Lemme tell you something, Dr Luke DAMN WELL knows what diatonic 10ths are. Which IS the big secret here.

Fellas, this is still music here....the basic rules haven't changed in 500 years.

He's got the perfect technique and tools to play a Casio on the sidewalk or join a Mexican pop band if he chooses

I know she likes gear and claims to get inspired by synths....she taught Conan how to play a Theremin on his show (didnt go far before he cut t a commercial break), but she isn't just a dumb studio vocal bunny. Not sure the extent of her knowledge but more than jesica simpson.

Obviously. Neither has the seasons of this world. Thats not what the OP had asked though.. He simply wanted to know what SYNTH/sound was used in the song. Not how to play the melody. That part was simpler than finding the synth. Most of the melody lines in Ke$ha's songs are in diatonic 10th's. And 95% of the sounds are made on a Juno 106 or an Oberheim. Benny Blanco digs the vintage sounds - as do I and most other Pop Producers of today.

It's interesting reverse engineering these sounds. Some of kesha's stuff just following Tik Tok had some great but generic synth sounds. Lady gaga was mentioned earlier..it's not so much the 'sounds" it's the "hooky synth parts" that are part of the arrangement or song. Listen to any of lady gag's stuff and in terms of the synth stuff it';s all about the notes. Then you take the stuff that lives above that (the lyrical melody and the lyrics, and the performance). I don't do that stuff, but I observe and appreciate it for how it's put together. Hey, I love a lot of these new commercial synth pop hits. Poker face always makes me feel good when i hear it in my car.

its very very simple

well

1st.
How to play it?
it goes DDD DEE FFF D A D DEE FFF
very simple

now for the synth

1st. with one oscillator select square, and on pitch put on -16
2nd.and now get the second oscillator set a square
3rd. add some vibrato to it

OBS: on the -16 pitch thingy the F doesn't sound right, while playing F, turn the pitch to -15

enjoy

Pretty amazing watching that kid Blanco. Not much into the technical side, he just has good ideas and doesn't fuzz around.

Ke$ha is a Synth enthusiast. Besides the Theremin she also has a Moog Voyager, Korg MS2000, Kaossilator Pro, Kaoss Pad, and probably other gear.

How do you record the sound into the computer? Do you need to mod the keyboard or something?

I opened up the keyboard and soldered the wires that were going to the speaker to a mono 1/4 jack
