Alright guys a little experiment... I'm curious to see how good some of you SLutz ears are.
Click on the link below to hear my latest track and tell me what synths I used (hardware vs. software, which ones etc.)

Woah....absolutely love the song, nice work. Nice clean clear vocals and melodies, nice synth work.
The only synth I could pin-point on SPACE EXPLORER was the Virus TI. Oops, I did have a peek at your link where you listed your gear!
Again, nice work, thank you for posting. thumbsup

It's a combination of effects really.
On Space Explorer I first recorded multiple takes of each part, sometimes with harmonies if I knew I was going to use them. Some sections I stacked 4 or 5 times. Then I took all of those vocals into melodyne and smoothed them out, adjusting pitch or timing on any of them if they were off. On certain parts I actually constructed a third 'melodyned' artificial harmony to exist underneath my lead and sung harmony. I like the way these sound on my voice and help blend all the vox together.
Then I bounced out the vox one track at a time to be brought into Logic for mixing and effects. EQ, Compressor and level automation to make the track consistent (I will sometimes alter amplitude within melodyne as well--i find the algorithm to be pretty good for that.)
Next I find the points where I wanted to create the spacey effects in the track and used different combination of filters to arrive at it. I use buses and sends to apply the effects to each track of vox. I'd apply a little stereo imaging and slight 'verb to the main vox. The delay effects are done using Logic's amazing Delay Designer. Some are 'buzzed' with diminishing time signature until the echo artifacts are so close together that they create a buzzing noise some are 1/16th echo some are 1/8. I set up 4 or 5 different ones and them figured out on which parts sounded good with what.
For the "Not the power of a singularity" line (which sees track drop out under it for emphasis) I added a little distortion and hipass on separate buses to give it a little extra grit
Finally I used some presets (GASP!) in NI's Kore 2 Deep Reconstructions soundpack for the sections at the end and right before the countdown to create a spacey tremolo'd effect. I could have easily done this from scratch but I might not have thought of the combination of effects used to create it hence I'd rather tweak some of the great crazy effects presets included in that sound pack.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Ha, sure, I guess the Space Explorer is my version of me. I like that. Lots of people will sometimes find a little bowie influence in my work (although I admit to not really listening to too much of him through out the course of my musical life).

You should give him a chance. Although he made a lot of wanky music, he also made a lot of great music. Quote:

great track / vid!
definitely interested to hear what was what.
is there a roland in there? sh201 or vsynth?
there is a melody line in there that is hauntingly familiar.

Hey guys thanks for the great feedback!
I will say this... (just cuz there's another thread about it right now) all the drum sounds and programming was done within ONE intance of Maschine using Maschine library sounds. Moreover processing of the kicks and snares was done from right within Maschine using maschine's included EQ's, Compression and delay.
All of this from within one logic multitimbral software instrument channel strip for added level and mix control.

From the debut album "Confessions of a Serial Seducer" (March 2010) comes a perfect track for fans of Depeche Mode, Muse, IAMX, and NIN.
| big fan of all them!
i can also hear a bit of influence from space oddity and major tom

Hey Alejo, thanks for the comment.
I live in Miami, but I haven't done any shows ... yet. I will likely do one at RokBar (promoter has asked me to do it twice but I've been really busy with some of my film projects.
How's Boca treating you? I worked off Yamato a few years ago.

I appreciate the feedback anyway! Thanks alot.
Alright guess I'll be revealing the synth and produciton make-uo then... I have a feeling some of you may be surprised... The entire track with the obvious exception of recorded vocals is ITB! All softsynths. All plugin EQ and compressors (none DSP based), All mix and master done right in Logic 9.
Main synths used Sylenth1 (bassline is a simply altered INIT patch with some extra saw tooth added), Massive, Omnisphere (piano sound at the end and crescendo effect at the top).
Effects are Logic effects and some Kore2 effects. Melodyne for vox correction.
As I mentioned all drum tracks are from one instance of Maschine.
Ozone 4 for master.
Obviously there's a ton of layering and distortion/effects on different things -- but i think it holds up really well.
Believe me I'm not a Software only guy (I have a virus ti, little phatty, tetra, microkorg xl AND DSP boxes UAD-2 and Liquid mix 16)

I just recently added the Ti so i haven't made a full assessment. Sylenth does dance almost as well as virus imo, however, virus is much more versitle in the end i think (wavetable synthesis, supersaws, effects). Plus its a great hardware unit obvio. I'm sure when its all said and done I will use both.
Omnisphere is really awesome for a sample based library. Just some really ko*** yet usuable songs in their. Great effects too.
Massive I have as part of kore2/komplete i still havent got to know.

and i love the bitcrusher in the virus! im not a fan of the effects in sylenth, i never use them. i would definitely use the distortion and delays in the ti. Quote:

im not a big fan of the regular VA side of it though, i wouldn't use it for regular synth sounds specially since it's so cpu hungry

Yeah, the synth options on Omnisphere are great.
I guess I need to spend some time with Massive.... but to be honest its like between my hardware rig and all the plugins/softsynths i have--- its freaking option overload sometimes.

Just released a new track called "List of Demands" that uses a DSI Tetra, Virus TI and my new FATSO UAD-2 emulation (plus maschine, sylenth, omnisphere, ozone, kore; the usual suspects)
