Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin. Awesome dark electronic music.

Some dubstep can be very dark, like Burial, you should check out "Untrue" by him.

Waaaaay dark:

Some great suggestions in this thread; I would also add Higher Intelligence Agency (if they were not mentioned earlier). Almost-perfect minimal chillout music.

Psy-trance - Earthling, Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor, Koxbox, GMS etc etc etc - though trippy rarely means dark to me - uncomfortable perhaps - for me dark insinuates (pre)meditated, manipulative thought of a negative nature - not sure how much trippy music would truly fall under that category - its largely sonically open and positive

Liked that Biosphere recommendation

There's a new side to psy-trance - think its known simply as Dark Psy-Trance - 150 bpm - threnching beats - fierce sound, tough attitude

Check out some of Surgeon's stuff. Not a whole lot of acoustic instrumentation, but definitely dark and trippy. The Screw The Roses EP might be up your alley.

Ben Frost - By The Throat. Deliciously dark!
BEN FROST, By The Throat - Boomkat
The first track 'Killshot' sums up the album nicely

I think some people are mixing up gothy/industrial and dark. Velvet Acid Christ is awesome, but I wouldn't consider them dark. Interlace's album Imago is definitely 'darker' as far as industrial goes.(one of my all time fav industrial-esque albums)

Fever Ray is decent but The Knife's Silent Shout is far better, though not entirely dark. Still, it's a must have.

I'd say Burial's Untrue has a dark, somewhat trippy vibe you might like.
Oh wait, someone already recommended it. Excellent.

Depends on where you set the scale : )

If it's "I'm a Barbie Girl" on one side, and Skinny Puppy on the other...

Not mentioned, but good is Orbital In-Sides...

Not entirely dark, but some great stuff on there.

Also, some Death in Vegas, Scorpio Rising is good...
can't recall Satan's Circus...

But they fit in the style you started with.

Primal Scream has a few good cuts as well.
Fan of Weatherall, Richard Fearless here though.

Offkey recordings, position chrome (label) for dnb. Raiden, the sect.

SPL and distance and 12th planet and especially vex'd for dubstep.

Should do ya just fine.
