he uses a lot of stuff.

this is old and mostly about mutek but...

Plastikman - Richie Hawtin - Derivative

other bits of info.. if you google you'll find interviews w/the guy and he has no prob talking about his gear.

Audiohead.net - Interviews - Richie Hawtin - Page 2

also, i think he has those cube + horn speakers that villalobos has... there's a pic somewhere of him sitting in front of his computer w/some gear around him.

He said he used FM7 on the Closer album. Outboard? I don't know. The Transitions mix CD includes a bonus DVD that contains an interview with him sitting around a studio. You might be able to spot some stuff there.

I should say that I don't understand this fascination with what other artists use. If you just want to know for fun, ok. But how do you know you'll like it? It's what HE uses.

I saw an interview with Hawtin, I think it was SLICES, it was a documentary where he was talking about doing lots of acid in his teenage years

Anyway, they showed his studio, and it looked just freakin' MASSIVE. He had a mixing desk that looked like a cockpit of a spaceship, and TONS of outboard gear. TONS. Surprising considering how minimal his music is.

that SLICES documentary was really great, they had it on YouTube but it looks like it got pulled. i don't remember seeing that big studio shot you mentioned though, other than the old pics from when he was at his parents' place (which was pretty modest really). interesting to see that he used to have a Sequential Six-Trak, though i'm not sure if it was used on any releases.

If I remember correctly, it was when he was talking about working on his album in LIVE? Thats when they showed the studio.

is the OP asking about gear in general, or outboard fx and signal processors?

one thing i made sure to ask him when i met him was what drum machine he used on 'Ethnik' - it was the Alesis HR-16. of all things to ask...
