Processed sample packs

How can you tell if a sample pack has already been processed? I purchased the Loopmasters Aquasky sample pack and I dont know if I need to compress and EQ it.. in particular the sub that I am using..

if you think it needs to be compressed.. then compress it
if you think it needs to be equalized.. then equalize it

I guess you're unaware that many sample packs are already processed (compressed & eq'ed), which would make no sense to further process it... I just wanted to know if there was a sure way to tell..

i am, as a matter of fact, very aware of that

and it would make a lot of sense to further process whatever you're using if it doesn't please your ears

like golden beers said.. USE YOUR EARS

mate it doesn’t matter. the question is academic. yes there would be a way; look at the wave, if it's all red-lining then it is compressed to hell. but it does make sense to further process it: if it sounds good to you, do it. compress it again. i have breaks in my database that have been compressed over and over. back in the day the likes of photec and dillinger would run a break through 4 samplers simultaneously. now you tell me; why the hell would anyone DO THAT!?!?!?!!? because it sounds good, so do it. (or not if it stinks)

ps:

It doesn't matter what processing has been done to it. A sample is simply a sound source like any other that may or may not require treatment to benefit the mix. Don't be silly and use your ears.

a good wait to know if it's been processed to hell is just to look at the peak

i have a ton of vengeance samples and loops that peak at exactly 0db

just by looking at the wave you can see it's been limited to sh!t
