Question for all of you JX 8P owners , do all of the features on the Roland JX 8P have dedicated midi cc#'s ? thanks . I may pick up one without the programmer so I was going to make a midi device panel in cubase for it .

Yes the PG 800 is essential if your looking for hands on editing. I downloaded this software and it works perfectly with my JX-8P.

Not really. A Behringer BCR2000 works great, and costs $150 or less. I just programmed mine last night for my wife's JX-8P, works perfectly. Also works great for my JX-10 (with the eprom update).

That's a pretty cool editor...no question. But there is no substitute for being able to grab a slider or a knob instantly and jump between a bunch of them at will without a mouse to deal with.

I use the JX-8V VST editor with my JX-8P. Works great, and you get other advantages. For example, patches are saved with your project and you're not limited to the memory locations in your synth.

If you really must have full hands-on hardware control, I guess the programmer is worth it, but it's just as easy to edit from the software using your mouse. I'm not a huge fan of using generic MIDI control surfaces to edit software or hardware. With no labels or logical grouping of the sliders/knobs, I always forget which knob does what.
