See the bottom of this page here:

Jaspers - Keyb.-ständer

Light-weight and still enough room to route cables, plus you can order more parts if you want to space 'm more closely together.

Otherwise, see sternstudio

Some people have also successfully used IKEA | Heavy duty storage systems | BRODER system - scroll down to see the storage racks. See Ikea 'Broder' racks - Pagina 4 - Synthforum for a picture of it in practice.

Hey, those tilting shelves just beg to be used in a home studio. Thanks for posting that.

Is that 170cm high Rob? I was wondering about the standard ones they do (140cm high) being a bit of a squeeze for four keyboards.

This one's 140cm high:

Another 140cm high one with extra bracing:

I'd be putting a JP4 on the sturdier bottom row.

Edit, ah I see which one you've got:

When it was time for new keyboard racks I ended up rebuilding mine.

I had two standard A-frames and some other funky tube "workstation" centre. The a-frames held 3 keyboards and the workstation thing was useless - but it used the same hardware.

I stripped everything off of them and bought 4 new pipes which were about 2 feet longer than the originals. I used these for the front tubes. I reconnected the A-frame supports and added a new brace near the floor to the front and back legs.

Right now these two are holding up 9 keyboards but I have more than enough room for 12.

I actually attempted getting several chrome shelf systems like what is commonly used in commercial kitchens and attaching a slide out drawer for the keyboards. It really wasn't that usable. I needed a stool to stand on for all the keyboards above shoulder hight. With the A-frames I just angle the crap out of them. It's a bit of a reach, but it works.

I love my Jaspers stand. I wish I had bought the taller one though so I could comfortably add a couple more tiers.

I'm expecting my Jaspers stand and accessories to show up next week probably. It's actually quite a hassle getting them sent to the US from Germany (or at least it was for me with multiple credit cards getting flagged as having potential fraudulent activity) but it's going to be a huge improvement. I'll be able to have more keyboards in less space.

Looks great! I'm torn between an A-frame and the box sort above that Rob has. You get front to back movement with the box one but it's 300 Euros, ouch! Also the front tubes on those might get in the way going between the keyboards and a computer to the side. I did a bit of a search on Google last night for the clamp parts and so on but didn't get anywhere. Jaspers sell them but I don't think it would work out any cheaper than a complete stand.

Found these pics on a Jarre board showing the box ones with two extra tiers and extra height (at a cost of 450 Euros!):

I ended up ordering the bastard child between the box style and the A-frame style. Seems to be the best compromise between stability and space for my needs.

Not sure where you're located, but a couple of these and you're set, most likely. They're by On-Stage and cost about $100-120 once you add the accessories(extra arms, etc.)

That is nice. With the A-frame you're sort of stuck with the position of the mounts on the cross bar.

That looks great but there is a point where the height of the keyboard renders it unusable.

Take a look at the first picture and the top left keyboard. I don't know what keyboard that is but I would guess by the look it isn't MIDI. What are you supposed to do with it almost 8 feet off the ground?

I'm not standing on a step ladder to play a keyboard. .

Even the keyboards on my top tier are almost too high (If I recall I cut my new front tubes at around 7 feet). Those are the keyboards I don't use often and almost never program and if I do I just use my pre-programmed patches.

I still have about 5-6 more synths I'd like to get in the studio. I think I'll add the extra 3 tiers to the A-Frames and build a wall mounted thing to hold 3-4 keyboards for the left wall above the PC-88

Yes that's a concern. I had an old A-frame before which I chopped the legs down and stood it on a big office desk (not one of my better ideas!) and I found some keyboards were obscured by the one above it. I think the clamps were worn out (got it s/h) and when I tried my JP4 on it I could see it slowly rotating round, about to dump itself on the floor! These Jaspers ones in those pics above have some big beasts on them which bodes well.

Yes I agree, those ones from the Jarre board are way too high to be practical. Another one of those genius ideas that turns out rather different in reality. Even the OSCar looks unusable up there. I don't want any of mine to be out of reach, keyboards are much nicer to edit than racks, even if they're not particularly knobby. It's good to see what these stands look like with actual keyboards on though. Found these pics of Jaspers stuff too (SteveO from the-gas-station.com, ah happy days): [ FlipDrive : Public Page - steveo ]

That's a good price. UK here though. I found one made by Stagg, 75 pounds here:

It happened to my Juno 106. I was adjusting the tilt and I lost grip (or something) and it flipped backwards, slid down the wall, and landed with a thud. It took out two of the sliders on the way down.

Luckily I found two replacement sliders from a guy in Hong Kong for something like $4 each (as well as a cool clear pitch bend control back lighted with blue LEDs). Now she's good as new.

Good job on the repair there. I don't want to find out what happens when a JP4 hits the floor!

Well, I've ended up going for the Ikea Broder shelves. Apparently they are being discontinued so move fast if you want some. I'd been under the impression they had to be wall mounted so I'd dismissed them before but looking a bit more closely I realised they work okay freestanding. No earthquakes round here either.

Here's how they are going to fit into my room. I'm going back to a tight U-shape that has worked well in the past. Ikea Rast boxes for rackmount stuff.

They look great but at a price - 1200 pounds here in the UK! The Ikea bits cost me about 100 pounds, I can spend the difference on the fun stuff.

rockman, just to let you know there's a UK company i found on ebay that do customized studio furniture.

eBay My World - ultimatedesks

They are doing me a pull out sliding shelf to go under my desk for a nord lead.
I can't vouch for them 100 percent as my stuff is still being built, but the guy is a producer himself and understands studio layouts really well. The stuff they do on ebay is just a taste, i think they consider any design/ measurements you can think of.

Worth checking. I have no affiliation btw.

Well I've got the Ikea stuff now but thanks! I bet he could knock up a copy of the Synthrax at a good price.

Sorry to dig this up, but i have to mention that 'ultimate desks' company have ripped me off 120quid.

Currently trying to get my money back.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT DEALING WITH THEM.

My customized desk parts never came, the guy said the order got lost 'on their system'. Wont pick up phone or respond to emails now.

Still looking.

Hey all.

Does anyone know of a company in the USA/CAN that offers a solution similar to that of Jaspers Alu?

I guess what I really want is something along the lines of the old Ultimate Support Tinker Toys.
Like Seven, I would prefer something with some height to it, about 7 feet tall. I don't have any old A Frame set ups just lying around to start with, so I'd hate to buy a package and then discard brand new pipes that I would ultimately just replace.

I'm surprised by how little information I've been able to find.

Racks and JP4

Man, the JP4 is way heavy, but it's also pretty bullet-proof. If it lands on carpet ... not really too much of a worry.

I know this is an oldish thread but I'm building a keyboard rack inside the frame of a build-in wardrobe. It was inspired from the Moby set-up which I first saw in a magazine (maybe SOS) some years ago.
I'll post some pictures when I'm finished.
