Virus C midi in help

So I have this synth (Access Virus C) plugged into my Interface (Edirol UA 25)...
i set up the DAW (Ableton) to send midi to the interface then to the virus

so the midi data is not getting to the virus or the virus is not processing the midi
do does any virus owner want to give me a hand

i mean i bought 2 brand new midi cables and i tried both and no luck
i tried plugging in different controllers directly to the virus but still no luck

im guessing it could be the settings on the virus but i set them up with the instructions of the manual
and it still dosnt work

help pleasssssssssse

Does the midi activity light on the Virus flash when you send midi data to the unit? If there's no flashing light then midi data is not getting to the virus. If on the other hand the light is flashing then perhaps your midi data is coming in on the wrong channel. Set the Virus to omni mode.

Another thing about my Virus C is that when you first power it up the volume is reset to zero. You have to give the master volume knob a twist to set the volume.

Your problem could be midi channel. Check that you're sending and receiving on the right channel first of all. Then, the virus will need to be set to output to the correct audio outputs. This is controlled in the main global menu. If I may also recommend that you first disconnect the midi out on the virus. Reason being that you could be sending some very funky messages back into your daw, which in my experience can mess with the a setting in your live that you might not aware of.

Use your virus in single mode to begin with, as this will then default your virus to the midi channel that you set it to.
Make sure in your DAW that the edirol midi out is enabled in the midi preferences tab and is sending data out on the same channel as your virus is receiving on. Make sure you enable all 3 options in the midi tab for the edirol midi. I have also experienced problems where when live is playing, you are unable to play keys, especially if you are using a usb midi keyboard. I would recommend programming in a little midi sequence and then letting it play while you mess with settings.

You might also need to check the hi page and lo page settings as if either of these are set to sysex, Ableton will not be able to read the data.
In Live, be especially careful that you are not receiving midi from the virus somewhere that you are not supposed to.

Hope that helps!

Also in live on the midi channel you are using, make sure you are sending this midi channel to the edirol midi out...

Eliminate all factors. Plug your headphone into the Virus.

First, test if the Virus C actually reacts when you connect the Novation's MIDI out with the Virus C MIDI in.

Does it do anything? Which channel is the Novation sending on - all or a particular one? If you're hearing nothing, is the Virus receiving correctly on all channels or just a particular one?

Then, connect the UA's MIDI out to the Virus C MIDI in. Connect the Novation to your computer. In the MIDI track in Ableton, make sure the MIDI out points to the UA's MIDI out; MIDI input is set by default to "all inputs" so no worries there.

Do you get any sound from the Virus when you plug your headphone in?

The display of the Virus C shows a note if it's receiving MIDI.

Then that's the problem you have to solve first.

When you play something, do you see a note flashing next to the patch name or number anywhere?

On the Virus, click SINGLE (next to SOFT KNOB 1 below the display) and then SYSTEM / MULTI EDIT. Use the PARAMETER left and right buttons to go through the options.

Check MIDI GlobalChan; set it to 1.
See if setting MidiVolume to "Dis" has any effect.
See if changing the Device ID has any effect.
When you try a direct connection, see if anything changes if you don't connect the Novation to the computer at all - just have it powered up and connected to the Virus.
Check on which MIDI channel the Novation is sending (set it to 1).

Check the OS when you're powering it up. If it says anything other than OS 6.5, you might want to upgrade - which might even fix your problem. For the rest you'll have to shoot a mail to Access Music support and see if they can offer any assistance.

MIDI dump Rx (Receive) or Tx (Transmit) are not related to what you want to do. It's just that you can disable these so you can't accidentally send patches.

Try reinstalling the OS anyway, perhaps it helps.

Press the edit and sync buttons on the virus together your virus should play a sound. If it does, then its a prob with the midi, if it doesn't its screwed...

Have you contacted Access yet? Just shoot 'm an e-mail - I'm out of ideas here. You could also look at The Unofficial Access Virus & Virus TI Forum - since 2002 - see if they know something, too.

When you connected your controller keyboard to the Virus you were connecting the MIDI OUT from the keyboard to the MIDI IN on the Virus weren't you?

Did you recently buy the Virus second-hand..? Ebay..?

Is it perhaps a piece of fruit, such as a watermelon, 'cunningly disguised' as an expensive synthesiser..?

Sorry, I can't think of anything else that might help you.

Heh. I had this too, and thought my MIDI interfaces were flaking out on me one by one. Since I have 3 - on the 1212m, the MIDISport and the MOTU 128, I just switched interfaces.

Anyway, good to hear everything ended well.
