Novation Sl MKII MIDI out HELP

ok i need help hooking up this controller to a hardware synth.

i got the external psu to work i connected a midi cable
in the "Midi port1 out" to the synth's "midi in"
and i have my headphones plugged into the synth

i also set up the global routing
midi to: U1 M1 M2

and

MClk-out: U1 M1

i turned the controller on first then the synth after

what am i missing?
its not working :(
