Roland sh02 for simple pwm leads and bass. minimoog for snappy bass, 2600 for sync and weird and normal sounds.

No doubt - the GRP A8. It is the most advanced, feature packed, non-modular analog synth that ever existed. And sounds amazing as well. http://greatsynthesizers.com/en/test...synthesizer-3/ |

i dunno. the new Synton Fenix is mighty mighty as well.....and may well trump them all, because it uses bananas which absolutely, positively rule for patching! and it has a helluva sequencer to boot ![]() for all in one analog power i say ARP 2600(grayface). it's a classic for good reason; it sounds phenomenal high-to-low and everywhere in-between, and with a couple non-invasive mods can eliminate all desire whatsoever for a boring minimoog |

hard to say what makes a synth the best of all times, it changes from song to song if your main thing is writing and producing. I like the Evolver so much as a lead synth I've named this song after it... tough one, out of my collection, the most notable: ms-20 cs-30 arp odyssey edp wasp sh-101 i put the sh-101 above the sh-2. sorry sh-2 lovers. the built in sequencer has made this machine more of a legend to me. if I had to pick JUST ONE? shit. depends if I get an external sequencer with that option. If I do....eh....I'm thinking ms-20. so versatile. even without a sequencer it's awesome as a processor. no external sequencer? sh-101 for sure. it has that magical sound and the interface is just so inviting. runner up would be cs-30, but that thing is so huge and complicated, it's hardly as inviting. and it's filters can't really scream like the 101 oh why didn't roland ever make an sh-101 with two OSC and two ENVs? that'd have been nice. sh-201? oh wait... ![]() I think the others in my list are notable for their uniqueness of sound. not much else sounds anything like my wasp, and nothing else can do those eerie synth sounds and awesome sample and holds like my arp, but, without external sequencers or any way to really automate them without external equipment, they aren't as great to me. Of course, I can control everything, so this is N/A in real life, but if we were to compare just the synths alone this changes the equation when competing for the title greatest... |

I'd like an honorable mention for the Yamaha VL1(-m). This waveguide physical modeling synth was arguably the most expressive monosynth ever, with incredibly realistic response for brass & woodwind type instruments, and much higher audio quality than the later & cheaper VL70-m, a mainstay of wind synth players. But it was an incredible bear to program if you actually wanted to sculpt the models, the provided models were very much a mixed bag, and -- what probably killed it commercially -- it's not really a keyboard-oriented synth engine.

TB-303 It's the only synth I've ever heard which sounds amazing at any knob placement. There isn't a single knob setting that sounds bad, ever...

2600 is unbeatable among the classics for its variety of sounds. Evolver deserves mention - I think it should be a future classic. If patch cables aren't an option I pick SH-5 as greatest of all time. |

| true I don't know about lot of hate, but if there is, there isn't much reason. It's a good synth for 500 bucks new and one of the most creditable for the recent expansion of cheap cute little analog desktops. |

take a korg mono/poly, replace the oscillators with 4 SH2 oscillators, replace the filter with a pro one filter, also add the bandpass/highpass filters and the sequencer from the yamaha cs30, and maybe a polivoks filter for good measure. keep the sync/xmod from the mono/poly and make the case longer to accomodate 61 keys and all the extra knobs. Best monosynth ever right there

The mono/poly is my favorite, that I've used/own. It's so inspiring to play. I really think Korg has always put the most fun into their instruments and it really shows in the design of the mono/poly. I also have a FR XS, it's cool but I don't like the oscillators that much, I use it more for processing/utility. I bought it as a gas reducer for an ms-20. Never liked the Moog sound although I love the build quality of their gear. The yamaha CS series is very underrated IMO. My #1 most wanted mono would be the tiesco 110f. So much life, and unfortunately such high prices these days. I would also like to own a pro-and an odyssey. |

| whats the greatest mono synth of all time
i'm not a massive synth head but i am lucky enough to have a vcs3 (I have the keyboard but its never worked ). It does however push you to get more from what you have.. The putney is a massive resource contrary to all the squeeky bonk noises you tend to see on the net. It can produce from killer low end bass sounds to ambient beauty. It just needs your imagination.. I have to say though the mini moog, ms20 always nails.. |
