Tron Legacy 2009 Trailer

I believe Daft Punk has 24 tracks for this movie and listening to the music in the trailer I'm very impressed with how it sounds.

Looks to be a good movie and it's going to be in 3D!

ehh, doesn't look too exciting at all. :( at least it seems they dropped the goofy "TR2N" title they had going...

this is a test reel that was already shown a year ago. before daft punk was involved, and before there was even a movie. this was produced to convince disney to actually make the film. the only thing different in this one is the changing of the title from TR2N to Tron Legacy.

this, however, sounds like daft punk may have helped out: YouTube - TRON: LEGACY - NEW LIGHTCYCLE REVEAL

Sounds like Daft Punk have been listening to Justice.

I saw the new trailer in the theater when I saw Inception in Imax the other day.
Some of the sounds were so kickass I got chills.
I think I need to see this film in the theater just to hear the soundtrack on a great system.

It looks like a matrix redeux, sadly. It has all the cliches.. guy looking for his dad, rebel on a motorbike, skin tight black outfits, too much makeup, bobbed hair.. It's like 1998 again.

At the end of one of the previews, a guy jumps off a building and turns into a plane

The creator of the original I think was trying to be polite by saying that he lacks the skills to create a "modern" movie and that the task belongs to someone else.. Either he declined to be part of it or he was left out intentionally. Not good either way..

It's one thing for Hollywood to churn out crap, it's another to do it to tron and even one more thing to rehash the last 15 years of techno noir movies. Obviously they are aiming at kids who were like 5 when the matrix, blade, hackers et al came out.

Fixed

BTW,

If that's Daft Punk, color me unimpressed. And I like DP a lot.
The style of music they are going for in this movie would've
been done better by Orbital.
(In-Sides, Middle No-Where, Alltogether eras)

At least they have the chops to pull off using orchestral
instruments in a "musical" way. This aint looping disco here.

Now it sounds like some film composer aping Crystal Method.

I'm not sure how much of this is Daft's fault. The producer/director
could've made a temp track of Juno Reaktor and given it to them.

It's one of those things that sound awesome at first.
Daft Punk + Tron!

Peanut Butter + Jelly = Good
Peanut Butter + Chocolate = Good
Chocolate + Jelly = Not Good

Maybe I'm being harsh, but I listened to a bunch of clips on
the site. Not DAFT enough. Doesn't sound authentic.

Those guys grew up in certain time, environment, with a
dad into disco, etc...

The user removed the vid, but I saw it a while back. Freak'in movie rocks, I am still a fan of the original movie and music soundtrack originally produced by electronic composer Wendy Carlos.

something i was thinking about...

in the original film, Flynn got sucked into the mainframe and met 'programs' that were likenesses of their 'users'. this was a pretty interesting concept. while basic, the surroundings sort of looked like you might imagine the inside of a computer to look like in this setting (to some extent, i guess). while i'd imagine that the concept is similar, this just looks like some sort of parallel future world that takes away a lot of the novelty and ingenuity of the first film. personally, i see this as a huge detractor.

Tron Legacy - Movie Trailers - iTunes

from that trailer released jul 26 2010, not sure how much judgement can be passed on either movie or soundtrack?

sounded like some distorted kick drum to the end. and the one dude is wearing a daft punk helmet (or does daft punk wear tron helmets?)

i look at it like the soundtrack for 2001

it should be hard to mess up, sci-fi films have orchestral elements, where I assume Daft punk would have quite a bit of help, and then there are scenes that are open and spacey, where the electro guys can do their thing...right?

I agree Juno Reactor would have been my pick but hey...starring an oscar winner, how tickled was disney's pr dept? maybe it will mean a decent ride or two...

edit: and...of course, i assume everyone has seen electroma?

Complete fail.

-Orchestral sounds? Star Warsian. Is that really what they aspire to?
-Visually looks like hoxton a couple of years ago
-Woman looks really dull, especially when there is so much interesting genderisation to look at in the realm of the virtual
-The original film was visually daring and provocative for its time and that still shows today. This looks like a total cash in on a dead sub culture of electro-house.

Dear film makers
to fix this film...

1) Kill disney/accuse them of making child porn. In the best case they're at least whoring out a really visually and culturally interesting an progressive film to a conservative market.
2) Then get Studio Ghibli to make it
3) Set it in south Korea, which has a really interesting relationship with gaming
4) Then scrap the entire project and make Neuromanscer

@Tark, check out avalon

both dreadful and interesting

A fundamentally japanese film funded via bandai filmed in poland w/polish actors and polish crew about a woman who's job is to win a computer game

Then check out Daft Punk's film Electroma

both dreadful and interesting

a fundamentally french film that involves almost no daft punk music and has zero dialog, it is very easy to see why they were tapped

in terms of soundtracks, i have often thought it would be a neat project to create underground alternative scores, esp for kubrick flicks--eyes wide shut being a great example of a film that could have its dialog and soundtrack ripped right out. released as a cd set w/no tie to the movie pink floyd / wizard of oz style...

The orchestral trailer music in this has probably absolutely nothing to do with the film.
In fact , the majority of hollywood film trailers never contain the original film music, and are sometimes composed by different people , or use music from some precedent film.
The reason is mostly that trailers are sometimes released waaaaaaaay before ( sometimes a year before) the postproduction is finished , or even begins , and sometimes before the original film music is composed !

So the orchestral music you're hearing here is not Daft Punk, and might not even be part of the film.
