Bedrock Trio

There's a jazz-electronica trio called "Bedrock". They have an album called "Shelf-Life." Heard it... I'm straight up blown away. I gotta know if anyone over here has any inside information on gear/recording/mixing, etc.

That's one of Uri Caine's project. He's one of the baddest and most versatile piano players around.
Check out his site .
He also did a side project called "The Philadelphia Experiment" with ?love on drums and Christian McBride on bass.
All of of his productions I know are top notch. The Bedrock stuff was probably mixed at Bauer Studios Ludwigsburg. All the "Winter & Winter" editions are wonderfully produced & packaged.

hope that helps.

you'd think they'd pick a different name, no? hasn't that been the name of the digweed & muir electronic dance production collaborative for about 10 years now?

saw them live a couple times. Tim Lefebvre (Wayne Krantz's bassist) on bass and Zack Danziger on drums. And some European dude, I believe, did all the other crazy production/FX work. For the album I'm sure danziger did a lot of the drum programming/processing of real drums.
Anyways the producer dude used a laptop live, and kind of massaged/played his laptop mouse pad. Cool FX, but nothing like the record. He didn't exactly stand out next to the incredible playing that was going on. Don't remember what the software was, this was years ago.

Uri Caine is incredible, but honestly, its not really even his project, and I noticed this when I saw them live. They just used his name because its the most well known. Live, he just played a moogish soft-synth, while most of the sound came from the other guys. The drum and bass/breakbeat sound is mostly Tim Lefebvre and Zack Danziger, who've have both played in drum n bass outfits back in the day. And even the game-show quirky sounding tunes are more like Boomish, another Lefebvre project, even though they feature Uri's playing.
I could be way off tho...

Anyways, the album is really cool, but completely all over the place.

There's no way that could be soft synth on the record though. Yeah, the drums sound like some kind of electronic drum kit, cause they have a very live feel. I was hoping maybe there'd be an insider on this forum. I think the bass sounds are what really do it for me. I'd like to incorporate similar sounds into my music - which is more rock with bits of electronica and hip hop mixed in.

As I remember, a lot of very well produced acoustic drums, as well as electronic drums. I can't remember back to the keyboard sounds on the record, but the plastic-y moog sound was for sure soft synth. Anyways, yeah, lefebre is the man. As I remember, very ring-modded bass, but tasteful.

Did they come out with more than one album? I remember that record was REALLY hard and confusing to find, because it was usually listed under Uri Caine, but never in stock.

Anyways, the record I'm thinking of, the intro track into the second track with the incredible d n b bassline, was the newest shit I'd heard when it came out. Right when I was transitioning from jazz into electronic stuff. I mean, the free time into drum n bass was really rad.

I know.

So I'm thinking of forming a new group playing electro-rock in the NIN-meets-SnakeRiverConspiracy vein. Wanna join? I'm calling it "Bedrock", whaddya think?

Or a mix of Metallica meets Children's Lullabys called "Rock Bed."

Uh, there are two Bedrock albums turns out. The 2nd one, the one I was referring to is the one with the open ended jazz transition into triplets into drum n bass. Ring Mod on the bass you say? Sounds intriguing, never tried that.
