Is there any powerfull modular effects software available for computer?

Hi all, for effects for my modular synth I have a TC fireworx a ensoniq dp/2 and a spare computer.
Is there any software is there out there that could compete with a TC fireworx or even a high end eventide for creative effects? The fireworx modular configuration is very powerful, but the dsp on the unit is getting kind of old now.
I was thinking of perhaps reaktor, or max/msp but I havent tried these? Something with real time control would be great.
thanks!

db-audioware QuantumFX

In any case, you have to deal with latency.

there are a few apps that host vst's and allow flexible routing between any vst plug in you have

check out audiomulch. awesome and easy audio routing and everything is automateable or you can just load up a bunch of vsts and connect them any way you see fit. for real time processing. it's a decievingly simple app and v 2.0 is coming out soon.

AudioMulch Interactive Music Studio

there's also RAX i think it's called.. for mac that is a vst host

reaktor is capable of all kinds of things and really worth checking out. you can make a great real time fx environment with it and there are 1000's of patches to download.

sonic core xite-1 or 14-dsp pci = " 0-Latency "

or a Lynx AES16 + LS-ADAT + RME ADI8-QS
true 32samples of latency @ 80% Cpu load.
+ converter latency.
0.77ms+0.77ms + converter latency.

also... all host softwares are diferent CPU optimized, at verry low buffer size.

Vaz modular software has nice stuff.

Mackie Tracktion 3 has "Racks", a nice user programable virtual rack with VST plugins, and also with DX plugis if usign vb-audio ffx vst dx wrapper.
is so modular and flexible, you can do anything you think of.
verry similar to Sonic Core software.

better than mackie tracktion racks is hard to find.
there was another but cant remeber the name... orange or something like that.

Sound Toys' Native Effects bundle (no longer TDM only) was created by former Eventide designers who worked on the H3000. It is in the running to be my next sw purchase. An ilok is required.

Absynth also allows audio processing and the results can easily move into twisted etheric dimensions if that is your taste -- especially with minimal tweakage.

Reaktor can do real-time granular and some very interesting phasey modulations with its Lurker module, but it also has numerous basics that you can chain together like frequency shifting, delay, flange, and the Spacemaster reverb (which is good for ambient-type sounds).

If you are deeply committed to the analog tone then the NI stuff might "digitize" the audio too much for you -- they definately don't put a sheen on your sound. Fortunately you can demo them.

A Symbolic Sound Pacarana could be considered a high-end modular effects. It is a two part system which has dedicated hardware as well as software. It really is a development environment for audio and you strap together building blocks to make a sound/effect/synth etc.

I have mine connected to my DAW via lightpipe and I can route 8 i/o to it directly from a nuendo session.

The client software runs on a PC or a mac.

I fully agree with this. I spent two hours last night just loading up random patches in Absynth and running drums tracks through it. I got some pretty kickass NIN type drum sounds this way. I also got some really crazy stuff that made my brain hurt with some patches.

But like the guy said, NI stuff ain't gonna sound analog.

I don't know about FireworX, but you can hardly touch an Eventide for creativity... you gotta have an excellent knowledge of C++/CSound to start building your own effects from scratch in CSound. Eventide has VSig, a visual environment to create patches and a lot of the modules are already FX by themselves. In CSound there are opcodes for this purpose, but you cannot really compare. (That's why I mentioned about C++).

Capybara, yes that can probably come close, but again to get really creative you need in-depth knowledge. Any of these environments can go deep, but I think that Eventides can you get you there faster and with much better results.

There is also the Nord Modular environment, but I don't think you can do really crazy stuff DSP-wise.

... the old Creamware and the reborn Sonic Core have a bunch of third-party plugs that have some great improvement, as Modular III loaded with FleXor v3 by adern.com
