its amazing how many ways there are to do "the same thing".
for example:

RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

theres also the Tc powercore v3 way.
the Tc works native bundle 3.1 sidechain plugin way.
the side chain compression in Reason

the Ableton way

the FL Studio Way:

the Logic way:

the Sonar 8 way,
the protools way,
the yamaha dsp factory ds2416 / yamaha 02rv2 way...
the hardware OTB way... elysa mpressor & many many others...
the sub-kick trick
and... my way!!! i use a totally diferent way! that is not limited to compressors with key in.

one way to do it with analog compressors that have audio input and key/sc audio input,
you must aux.send from console to key input or patchbay and then to key input, the kick channel for example.
then insert the analog compressor in the channel you want "you need a consoole with inserts, and patchbay".

or do it directly without console, with a synth, sampler or drum machine that has more than 2 outs, or two machines, you send the kick to key in the compressor.
hardware compressors like elysia mpressor .wav demos in their web page.
or other brands of compressors with side-chain / key input.
something like this dbx266xl:

or Tonelux TXC

or...Presonus 88, or RSP 360, or Rocktron 360, or... chameleon 7720, or etc...

the free plugin way...

another reaper way...

i have an mpressor, and to be honest if you are just keying the sidechain with a kick to make pads and leads pump, the logic compressor does a very similar job

A little off topic here, but Damn, most of those tutorials were pretty insane! I couldn't believe how convoluted of a process that was for the Nuendo and Cubase videos. Makes me happy to be in PTLE, no matter how "limited" it might be.

I wish there were more of these kinds of videos just so I could get a reference on what mixing is like in other DAW's and what features have been streamlined.

Cubase 4 and onwards has the vst3 compressor so side chaining is really easy,,you click a side chain button in the cubase compressor, then on your kick track if thats the channel you are going to use, click on a send and choose that side chain and job done, set your compressor.

Right on. That makes more sense to me, as long as you're not limited to that one compressor with that method.

You are limited to that 1 compressor but like the logic compressor for pure ducking of bass or pads etc it does the job well.

pretty dissapointing really, considering the VST3 protocol's been out for 2 years now... dont see why 3rd party pluggers arent making sidechain capable plugs for Cubase??

Guess VST isnt a big priority for any of them, with RTAS/AU and all...

So many people make tutorials with good intentions but they either are foreign and struggle with wording their thoughts or are horrible teachers. You're a great teacher in that you explain why you're doing each step.
