| Buy both. In the end you will have all UAD's plugins ![]() Just demo both of them and choose. It realy depends on the sound you want. Both are great. IMO 88RS sounds round and warm, and the 4K sounds crisp and upfront. But when you tweak them enough, you will get them sounding close, but just with a differend sound(color) to them. It also depends on the UAD you have and how many instances you want to use. |

| I would go with SSL 4K. Universal Audio | UAD Charts This is due to the fact that it takes way more processing power to achieve than the Neve. This means they may actually be doing some form of modelling (like the 33609, Moog, 1081) vs using standard algorithms. I think the 88RS uses the standard digital linear phase EQ that you can get anywhere for any price you are willing to pay. Check out the Digital EQ, Fact/Myth thread. Digital EQ Fact & Myth. You'll get less channels, but they would be more authentic. |

| I would say to buy the Neve 88RS, but thats only because I have experience with it. Never tried the 4k. ![]() |

| Lives for gear | depends...the 4k is punchier in its compressor-but the CPU usage is off the chart. I think that was a bit of a mis-step from UA to be honest...if anything needs to be low DSP its a channel strip IMO...but yes perhaps it has better quality for it. The 88RS is really nice-it genuinely makes things sound smoother when its loaded in-and the compressor is great-I liked it even on busses. However it hasnt got the SSL punch or attitude if you are into that... try them and see which you prefer? |

Honors Degree: Comparison between the compressor and EQ of the Neve 88RS and the UAD- Found: Neve OTB vs. UAD Neve ITB i think the neve sounds better than the ssl. the UAD neve better than the nebula, also the uad fairchild sounds better than the waves or ik 670, for most things. the trident-a its a dissapointmnet. | |

| I'm really liking Duende X-EQ... I've pretty much abandoned compression ITB, but X-Comp is good for certain things. That's become my "channel strip", with some Nebula added. More an Algorithmix channel strip than SSL, but SSL in distribution. I get my color outside, so the X-EQ works well with my methods. |

| Gear addict | neve and ssl is CHARACTER stuff. i like sonnox dynamics for every-channel peaks killing. 33609 is killler plugin but CPU hog. i like it in the master bus. |
