Soundtoys plugins automation in Cubase 4 and 5 doesn't work

Hi!
I recently bought the Soundtoys plugins bundle for PC Windows, really awesome plugins! But one problem, for example Echoboy and Crystallizer dont work right in Cubase, when I automate them.
I tried it in Cubase 4 and 5, both have the same problem.

When I record or draw the automation , it works fine. But when I bounce a track or project, or freeze a track, it goes totally wrong. He plays something totally different than the thing I automated. The automation does not go smoothly, but in large steps, although I record a smooth automation line.

I work with cubase on a PC, windows xp. A friend of mine has the same computer as me, a computer especially for music production from Eye-4 systems in The Netherlands, and has the same problems. Only with soundtoys, no other plugins give these problems.

Does somebody else also have these problems, or does someone know the solution for this? Thanks in advance!!!

I tried the latest demo of the soundtoys plugs in cubase 4.52 and automation was wrong by quite a time margin

FWIW - I had some automation issues with DSK plugins in Cubase 4.52 when bouncing the track by itself but not when doing a mixdown.

I just saw that when I export the audio in Realtime, the automation error is not as bad as when I bounce the audio normally.
But still Bad automation!

Oh damn. That really blows. I just ordered the bundle and use Cubase 4.52.

I guess I should have demo'd first, but I hate demo'ing with ilok. Pain in the ass.

Hi entrainer
They are really great plugins, really shit that I cant use them optimally!please let me know if your bundle works good with automation, and bouncing and freezing. then I know that the problem is or is not because of cubase. and do you also work on a pc?
hope to hear from you, thanks!

Thing is ,as much as i love these plugs they are the sort of plugins where you use loads of automation especially on the filters. So for me its a downer as the sound is mind blowing but the automation issue stopped the purchase. They would do the filter and delay duties big time in my setup.

If the automation problem is ever sorted ill be right on them

I can confirm the same issue on the demo. I decided to check before I paid the $399 @ GC, where software in non-returnable. It was a special order, but I think I can convince the salesman to keep it on hold until this is sorted out. I'd rather spend my $ on something that works now.

It sounds to me that it's jumping from one value to another at set times.

Hi there,
The problem is still not solved, but I have found a way to work around the problem, and still use the automation.

Maybe for some people its logical, but I just found out yesterday after a newsletter from record-producer.com about freezing when your DAW doesnt have a freeze option. It's so easy if you know it haha

Do it like this in Cubase:

1. Route the output of the track to be frozen to an unused bus.
2. Make a new track and set its input to the same bus. Set it to record-ready.
3. Hit record and play the track through.

Now your automation is totally good recorded!

Hey Guys,
Sorry for your frustration. We are looking into this and hope to have a solution before long. No way we'd leave it broken, automating them is too much fun, and we've committed to supporting VST, so we WILL find a solution.

Ah. Good idea! That's a good temp fix. I don't mind the occasional "real-time bounce".

Thanks for responding Mitch. My demo's expired and I'm having withdrawl from the Echo. I really like the different colors available. I'll drive up and grab the copy now and use the real-time record suggested above until the fix is available.

Bought the Native bundle and got the same problem with Cubase 5.

Now there is almost December.
Wrote to Soundtoys support two times about this problem. Asked if whey were aware of the issue and if they are trying to fix it.
Didn't get any answers.

I stumbled upon the answer here, but unfortunately it still has not been fixed.

Plese help! I want to use my greatest sounding plugins more!

That sucks. I have tried SoundToys and they are awesome sound-wise but FX automation is a must so no deal unless they sort this out.

I am thinking of purchasing the Sound Toys plugins.

However, I am using Cubase 5 and as far as I can see in the Cubase forum there are still complains about automation in the Soundtoys in C5.

These plugins are not cheap and I will certainly find totally useless a filter that I CAN'T automate.

So, any users here, is the problem solved or no?

I would also like to know whether this has been fixed in the new V4 update. Has anyone with V4 tested this?

Is th V4 update free to existing users?

Even if the automation bug is fixed in V4 I wouldn't trust a company that releases new versions of their plugins without fixing so serious problems first.

Upgrading from SoundToys Native bundle v3 to v4, I found out the automation is working ok in Cubase 5 now. I tried it with Echoboy and FilterFreak.

The only problem I found was in Echoboy. When I pushed the feedback knob, the pc made a heavy crackling sound when I played back the automated track.
Did not get any cpu spikes though.

The knobs also behaved strange when playing back the track with automation. But it did not affect the sound.

When I listened to the exported loop, it was all ok at the end.

Hey Dennis,

Did you pay for the upgrade or was it free for V3 users?

I payed $99 for the upgrade.
I think Decapitator was worth it alone

About the automation. I sent what I wrote here to the support.
So I hope they do something about the crackling problem.

Dennisjr, have you also found that the needle in the decapitator doesn't move smoothly? Sound seems not to be affected, though. Can you check, maybe with a 4/4 kick drum?

Let me get it right then:

The automation problem was NOT fixed in V3 and somebody would be forced to upgrade to V4 for a fee in order to have just that fixed?

In their website they seem to be a company with respect to their clients, so this is a surprise to me that they did not fix that in V3. So if a user of V3 does not want to upgrade to V4(because he does not need the extra plugins) is doomed to stay forever with the automation issue.

Is that correct?

So whats the latest on this issue?

I'm about to update Cubase 4 to Cubase 5 or Nuendo 5 and I was considering picking up the SoundToys Native Bunldle.

So are SoundToys Native automating properly in Cubase 5/ Nuendo 5?

If not I'll demo the Ohmforce effects bundle. It has a few similar items (delay, phaser, filter) but not sure if they sound as good. But if SoundToys can't automate properly then they are pretty useless for me as a plug in.
