Remote SL MK11

Not sure if this has been posted already but...

Novation Music : UNITED KINGDOM :

looks quite interesting but not sure about the dropping of the 2nd LCD.

I like the LEDs around the knobs and the lite buttons, but the lack of the 2nd LCD screen is basically telling me not to upgrade from my SL37. Plus they don't have a 37 key, intead offer a dfegad49 key.

they look awesome. sexy. but why on earth would they remove one lcd ?!?

otoh, if this make them cheaper than original SL series, im all for it. but i doubt this will be the case. they'll probably charge extra for the orange buttons and leds arround the knobs a la nord lead 3..

even tho, on paper, so far, SL was my controller of choice, i must say i developed huge reservations after playing SL61 in the store, as far as its build quality, and gig situation durability. it felt like a cheap toy (others are far far worse tho). even tho action was okay. reports from users complaining about these problems didn't help either.

im digressing but: in the meantime a frined bought AKAI MPK49, and its built like a freakin' tank... metal body. unbelievable that someone actually put out a controller of this build quality, in this age of cheap plastic. controls arent flimsy, but strong.. have nice resistive feel etc.. unfortunately, i didnt get it bcs i need (novation's) sysex string support, so i can edit the likes of microwave, roland mks series etc.

so, perhaps to early to ask this but, are these new ones supposed to be built better ? they appear to have more metalic parts... is the keyboard the same, or better?

I was unsure as to why they removed the second screen but after watching all the vids it seems that because all the controls are now touch sensitive there's nothing to worry about really.

If you touch a fader the relevant info shows on the screen - not in line with the fader granted, but it doesn't leave you in the dark....

It's doesn't leave you in the dark, but 2 is better than 1. That's the main reason I'll be keeping my SL37, that and I want a 37 keybed.

The 25 key and 61 are now available; the Zero and 49 I think is available beginning of May. That's what they said on the vid anyway.

I might check out the zero. It looks quite a bit better than the older version.

Besides DJ duties, I wonder what use the DJ-like slider would be on the Zero?

dfegadThey cheaped out on a 2nd LCD! Build quality looks exactly the same = boooooooo! I like the LED rings and smoother encoders. I wonder if the drum pads are actually usable this time. I'm quite interested in swapping my SL61 for an for an mpk for the drum pads and arp.

OUTCH! £500 for the 61 key, £400 for the 49 & £330 for the 25 Key...That's BAD!

Does anyone know if you can use SL encoders or buttons to switch softsynth switches? Mine keeps on crashing my DAW when I set a waveform selector or a filter type switch in creating software.

I will say that I played a SL compact in the store and it had like silverish encoders that felt a little nicer to use. The pads on the SL compact (which look like the ones on the SL mk2) are much much better than the SL bricks. I seriously have no idea what the hell they were thinking with these first pads (it almost hurts to use them). The SL compact pads felt a little too squishy to me though, but they feel nice.

Still can't believe they took the second screen away Or else I might have gotten a newer one (if there was a 37 key).

I've never used the pads. I tapped one when I first got it, the whole front pannel vibrated...Not a chance. Brick is surprisingly accurate for something made of rubber
