Thread Starter | Simplifying Keyboard Rig in the Modern Age
Hello Everyone, This is my first post on this site, so briefly about myself. I am musician and part-time recording engineer working out of North Florida and Orlando. When not doing audio related task, I do freelance graphic design and photography. Now the Question: For the past five years I have lived in one location, and have not played live. This is about to change so I'm reducing my keyboard rig to a more portable, road friendly size. The idea is to make it as simple as possible to use, maintain, and travel with. Obviously without sacrificing quality and power. I'll spare the recording path details, and go for the meat of the rig: Kurzweil PC2x, Nord Lead (original), MiniMoog Voyager, Doepfer A100, Motu Traveller, MacBook Pro This is a lot of gear when it comes to traveling (I know some of you are thinking, "No it isn't!" Give me a break, I have to fit it in all in a Jeep), so let's see if we can reduce it. I will replace the Kurzweil with a controller, and use a plugin for piano sounds. The only other gear I want to bring is a small synth, the Mac, and the Traveller. Which I suppose makes the real issue: what board can faithfully encompass a MiniMoog, A100, and Nord. My thoughts have ranged from a Virus TI (which I have never particular liked the sound of, sorry) and the Nord Lead 2x. So how simple can it be made, ideas, comments, questions? Let's try to reduce it to an 88 key controller, a MacBook Pro running Abelton Live and a few plugins, and a synth. Keep in mind this is for live use. With today's technology there's no reason to drag all this gear around (And again I know someone will say there is plenty of reason to)! Last edited by GhettoAstronuat; 5th April 2009 at 09:13 PM.. I think you pretty much answered your own question. Just bring the computer, a controller for some good softsynths, and sample all your essential sounds.
