Overdrive/Distortion pedal for Rhodes, Organs & Moogs' sounds?

Hola mates,

I'm thinking of adding an Overdrive / Distortion pedal effect to my synths gear, mainly to add some Overdrive / Distortion to Rhodes, Organs & Moogs sounds.

I've read that the Boss BD-2: Blues Driver has a warm character, so I thought it could fit to the sounds above.

I'd be grateful for your help.

1) What do you think about Boss BD-2?
2) Do you have any other recommendations?
3) Does a Bass guitar overdrive/distortion would fit more than a guitar overdrive/distortion?

Any tip would be welcome!

Thanks you!

Hey whats up, look up the Malekko B:Assmaster on the forum. Theres some clips posted and youtube videos of the moog voyager and the pedal. I own it and it's absolutely gorgeous. Will be posting some clips over the weekend.

m.nash,

Thanks for your reply!

Malekko B:ASSMASTE looks like a small vicious beast.
I'd be happy to hear/see some of your clips. Thanks!

Any comment & recommendation is welcome.

Cheers,

T-Scream

Tube screamer sounds even warmer than the BOSS BD. It has a lot less crunch. Not sure what it would sound like with keyboards. I am really interested to hear how this works out for you and what you decide to use.

I've yet to come across that special distortion for synths. Somebody enlighten us.

never tried the BD-2. I have tried some other boss distortions and that particular one (os-2) sounded a bit too scratchy/thin on keys. (although I love my boss pedals on other applications.)

2) Do you have any other recommendations?
There are so many options. I would start with booster or overdrive pedals.
Distortion pedals (RAT etc) are very agressive, so that one might be too much for your rhodes. I'm very happy with a Coron Jet flanger, a rare booster/flanger pedal. Tube Works is pretty cool too. IMHO you can never have enough distortion flavors. Just buy and try a couple on ebay.
And stay away from the budget stuff (behringers etc ) if you want a full sound.

3) Does a Bass guitar overdrive/distortion would fit more than a guitar overdrive/distortion?

If you want to keep the low end of your sounds, probably yes. Most guitar pedals do have a tendency to act as a high pass filter.

I would love to use a pedal but everyone I've tried has way too much noise for my tastes.
I use Scope DSP cards and route my analog synths into amp emulators or just go direct to my rotary cabinet.
Rhodes with a grungy leslie effect is cool.
I can hardly tolerate the pretty smooth jazz sound I hear where the Rhodes is autopanned and bathed in reverb......aaarrgghh. It's just too...........well, Kenny G'ish sounding.
I would like to hear the Assmaster pedal too.
A noiseless pedal would be great.

You could swallow your pride, grab a few bucks and buy a Behringer MIC100 mic pre amp. I use it to overdrive my Hammond an I like it. I have an ART TUBE MP as well, but it's a bit dull in the higher frequencies (great for distorted kick drums, though).

Cheers,
Bert
