Mpc5000?

any of you guys here using a MPC5000?

There's a new OS for it and I'm curious about it. The idea of having a self contained machine is very appealing to me but every time I had a MPC in the past I ended up selling it (MPC2000XL and MPC1000 with regular OS). But since this one has so many new features I'm considering getting one again.

I'd probably need to sell my jomox 999 which is my main drum machine atm. I love it for it's massive lo-fi sound but I could see myself getting more out of the MPC.

any thoughts?

btw, I use ableton as well, and have GURU but I always end up not using them for one reason or another...

Looks quite unstable machine so far.
No clear advantages over MPC 2500 actually.
Added synth not worth added price.
I would take proven 2500 or 2000 or 3000 if you need beat sampler.

What was the synth like when you tried it out? What did you not like about it? It's unstable? What happened to make you think this?

I am somewhat interested in the MPC5000, I've heard good and bad about it but I'm not one to bash something I've never tried.

To the OP: IMHO an MPC1000 with the JJos is the best bang for the buck. If you are interested in the 5000 by all means go try one out. The interface looks really nice, I bet it's not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

There are a lot of negative reviews on the web for gear that the naysayers have never actually touched. The Alesis Fusion is a good example of a great product that was killed in internet forums by people who never even used the thing.... of course you can buy one now for $600 because of these people.... so I guess that can be a good thing.

I took $500 for my Fusion ...

Coincidentally, the Fusion's VA is what's in the 5000, I've heard ...

I can't imagine how painful it would be to program a synth with an MPC interface.

Man, cool down. I'm fan and long time user of MPCs.
I would be the first to buy it, if it would be justified.
I had MPC 2000, 3000, 4000 and currently use 2500.
I used them much more in the past than now.
Nukai added synth that sounds quite bland, so synth alone means nothing in this machine. Just marketing gimmick.
While playing randomly and trying machines functions, it got frozen or wrote some stupid info on the screen. Could be that later versions are better.
Anyway, in pure sampling capabilities (what is core of MPC) it doesn't offer anything new or radically improved.
BTW price dropped significantlly.

Thanks for the info. It's always good to get first hand accounts from people who have tried it out. I havent been able to mess with one yet.

Thats insane that it locked up and glitched out on you. IMHO the big benefit of using an MPC over other sequencers is how solid they are. Thats too bad that the 5000 isn't up to par yet.

I'm "intern engineer" (haha my made up term) for a guy here in Atlanta and we use one. It's not compatible with aksys I believe unless the newest update allows you too. The OS is buggy. I would list all the bugs but it's too many. As far as bugs I would compare it to Vista. But once everything is worked out it'll probably be a nice machine. BTW I learn something new on it everyday. Also you guys in here are amazing. God Bless. thumbsup
