Basically I havce cubase 4 LE

But I need the intrument rack, and side chaining.

why on earth are there so many versions?

Which ones have the two features I need? I would rather get the cheapest

Hi.

No. You click the "VST Instruments" option in your menu and it opens up a rack where you can insert multiple VST instruments onto.

I use Cubase Essential 4.5.2 (most recent version) and it still doesnt's support sidechaining.

By the way, the feature comparison chart now says that Cubase Essential doesn't have sidechain inputs. LOL.

Spend a few dollars, get a good version! It is soooooo worth it! You are basically talking about about free bundled versions, and almost free super cheap versions! I started with Cubase SE(which is now Essential 4) and soon went to Cubase SX3(now Cubase 4), best upgrade money I ever spent! I am still using the same great hardware I used with SE! Considering it costs thousands to make a jump like that in Protools (you have to buy all new really overpriced hardware!), it is a great deal!

Cubase 5 is out, anyone who purchused 4 version recently can upgrade for cheap. i dont know how much the upgrade would cost over there but for compression, here (Israel) anyone who purchused Cubase 4 version in the past 2 monthes can upgrade to 5 for around 150NIS (less the $50).

upgrade from SX3/SX4 would cost 900NIS ($240)

its well worth to check out upgrade costs, i belive Cubase 5 will be far more advanced then 4.

I´m not surprised

I agree that upgrading to a more expensive version is worth it.
Too bad you already ordered essential.

I am in communiation with them just now. They have apologised and since fixed their website. I have already paid for Essential and had it delivered though so it is pretty useless to me as I really needed the sidechain. One of the support guys is going to help me find a solution.
