Mopho: diminutive!

Hey, a Mopho was just delivered to my door! And... man, is it small! For me, this is a very good thing. I'm psyched. I can pack it in my little mbox2 bag along with my other portable gear and I'm totally mobile! Yes!

Having only seen jpegs on the web --- and having never perused its measurement specs --- I had no idea it was this small. I was picturing something more tabletop drum machine-sized.

For those of you who haven't seen it in person, it's the size of a large-ish guitar pedal.

For some reason, I like to work on headphones and make music in public spaces --- cafes and museums , etc. I find it inspiring to sit amongst people going about their lives and have planets smashing in my 7506s. It is my favorite circumstance to compose. The songs that I make in these situations seem to have more life and actually reflect the environment that day.

I think that, bright mustard color aside, the Mopho would not call too much attention to itself in public. You could probably just set it down in front of you without too much unwanted "What's that? What are you doing? Can we hear what you're doing?" type curiosity from people around you. It really looks like a toy. I like toys.

Um, it does not sound like a toy though. My primary interest in the Mopho is bass and it does not disappoint. Jesus, the low end.

But that's another thread entirely.

Next item on my procurement agenda is a monome. I have a lot of ideas what I'm going to do with it. Then I'm going to stop buying stuff for a while.

I'm not much of a synthesizer person --- I am primarily a guitarist and songwriter --- but hearing the Mopho makes me curious about the Evolver series...

It's the best!

You'll feel like you're getting away with something.

I love it.

You'll probably get a few uneasy looks as you sit there with your headphones on plugged into a small yellow flat cube while laughing to yourself at how good this thing sounds.

Thats how I feel when I wield my Kaossilator. Techy people look at it with a mixture of curiosity and bewilderment. I can see the gears in their heads turning as they try and figure out how to Google something that they do not know the name of.

The Kaossilator is a weird little device, but lends itself very well to creating trancy soundscapes. The fact that it takes batteries rules. I sure wish my Blofeld did. Since the Blo is 12v it wouldnt be hard at all to rig up some type of battery pack for it.

How cool would that be? A Blofeld or a Mopho and an MPC500 for your backpack.

Congratulations on the new purchase. I have been eying a Mopho for a while.

When you get a Monome you will not be able to work for more than ten minutes without people coming up and asking what it is. Some just stare at it and think you are summoning the alien mother ship. The Monome is great. A Monome controlling a Mopho could be very cool.

Enjoy.

Thanks.

Yeah, LOL, the monome is not a thing you can use in public without asking for attention, that's for sure. I'm aware of that!

It'd be hilarious to break it out and run some kind of eye-catching sequence and then look at everybody disingenuously with a "Why are you all staring at me in this Starbucks?" look on your face.

p.s. my one word review of the mopho so far: badass.
