Question Juno G or Korg M50?

Hi all - anybody got any strong thoughts/ experience regarding these 2 models? We're just starting getting into the complexities beyond a basic Yamaha keyboard with set sounds - these 2 seem to be a good base to move up into tweaking sounds, sequencing and sampling (Roland only this one AFAIK) - be gentle, its all very new!

Hi John,

I had a Juno-G for about a year. Although the programming can be pretty deep, I found the quick edit knobs handy and fun to use and the effects section was pretty decent. I tweaked several of the presets and came up with several good atmospheric pads. I didn't do any sequencing or sampling, though.

I sold it after deciding that I really wanted another keyboard with aftertouch. Also, if you want a decent acoustic piano patch, you'll have to buy an SRX expansion as the preset piano sounds are crap.

pros: lots of sounds and backwards compatible with Roland's JV/XP/XV series sound libraries

cons: no aftertouch, cheap keyboard feel, crap piano sounds, only 1 expansion slot

I don't like most Roland stuff. You'd have to go very high end to get anything decent out of them these days.

I was looking at the M50 the other week. Just looking at specs and features--no first hand experience and I thought it was good value for the money.

I went through the exact same debate a few months back. The way I see it, for the price you're going to pay for a new, budget workstation, you could buy a used one-generation old workstation that will be much better. Instead of a Juno G or M50, you could get a Fantom X, Motif ES, or Triton. That would be my advice.

I bought a used Fantom X6 instead of the Juno G I was considering. Excellent decision! There is a part of me that thinks a Motif ES would have been a better choice, but I still love the Fantom a lot. I personally am not too crazy about Korg workstations.

Thanks all - Mike has considered all the options and listened to all the advice (from here and elsewhere) and has ordered a.... M50

No doubt more will follow!

Cheers
