Mopho Sound Editor

Anyone using the mopho sound editor with sucess. I opened it up a bit, but I am guessing that this needs both midi in/out to be hooked up for it to work. IT would be nice if the Pro version ends up with VST style support. So far, not feeling the mopho really, so hoping to be able to program some sounds easier than with the knobs available.

I use it all the time & really dig it. You have to have the midi in & out set up & make sure you go into the midi preferences in the editor & set it up there as well.

It crashes from time to time, but it is still in beta. Other than that it opens the Mopho up so you can get the most out of it.
Give it some time & I am pretty sure you'll love it.
Good luck!

If you downloaded it a few weeks ago, you should check the site again. It was just updated to 1.2.1, and seems much snappier than the other two versions I was using.

Yeah, I set up my midi and audio ins and outs in FL and then open up the mopho editor. Works fine, and is a lot more user-friendly than e.g. the microKorg editor.

Unless they bring out a mopho with a usb port, I don't think it would be technically possible.

I think you'll start "feeling" it once you've got the editor up and running.

Cool thanks. Yeah I ran thru the presets, havent had much time with yet, but wasn't inspired really by anything, so yeah, glad to have the editor. Hoping I can really dig into it and make some nice bass patches.

also have a bit of trouble with the mopho editor. when I change patches on the mopho unit, the editor will also change patches, but I cannot get the mopho to respond to changes in the software.

I am thinking that this must be an issue with getting MIDI to the mopho from my interface, I select MIDI setup, and have everything set up as suggested but have not had any luck. I am using Pro Tools and see an option for Mopho V input port as a MIDI output in protools, but have not had any success using this as a MIDI output

If anyone has any suggestions it would be a very big help, as the mopho is not very fun to program patches without the editor.

I agree it would be great if you could record and edit automation via a vst/au plug in version. The company could develop this but I don't think they have a financial incentive to do it.

VST and AU support should be added by the end of February 2009. Presently, in version 1.0.0 the MophoPro MAC version features Mopho Virtual MIDI interface that can be used as a bridge between and Sequencer and the editor.

Taken from Mopho - Dave Smith Instruments

I'm still waiting on the VST, when that comes this will be killer to use with Cubase.

Anyone have any updates from soundtower or DSI?

They haven't posted news about the editor for a long time...I make great sounds with the on board controls, but the procedure is time consuming and boring. It needs a working vsti editor..If i won't have a decent editor until winter, i will sell it to fund a new SEM or something...Mopho is a great machine, but at least, it could have a matrix interface...

Maybe it came...and then, it left...

Its very disappointing news though..they might have put their attention on Tetra..and left Mopho users on their fate...i hope not they will have to give some apologies otherwise... Everybody knows that 7 from 10 people don't like Mopho's interface and want more controlling options in the form of a VST plugin...

Do you think there will even be one for the tetra?

I bet there isn't going to be one (they never emailed me back, both ST and DSI). I'm going to now think twice before buying anything from SoundTower or DSI.

Given the mopho only has midi ports and no usb, I was always a bit doubtful as to whether a vst version was technically possible. Don't other vst-ed things like the virus and the lexicon mx200 use a usb port for it?

I'm very sure about it...it has a usb port! This makes it easier for them to make a vsti interface like the one on the Virus TI range...and Dave Smith said that they have listened to the people who wanted a usb inside Mopho, so they put one in Tetra, but people had this demand because they wanted a vsti editor..not just for midi i/o...

Another company, Sound Quest, makes vst editors for old analog synths working with midi, so, it is technically possible, it just won't work so fast and they might face some problems which might lead them to the decision that its not worthy making it..i think that if it will ever be a reality though, it won't be for free.. :( Who knows, maybe it will be included in Sound Quest editor collection some day..

If you're quick with programming, just download the demo. It won't let you save patches to your computer, but you can easily save them to the synth itself, and the demo allows you 45 minutes per startup. Honestly, I'd recommend starting with the demo first anyway just because that program is so buggy, crashes a lot, and doesn't work with every synth that it advertises that it can.

I dumped mine 6 months ago for similar reasons and I have not looked back. No regrets about selling it. One less paperweight on my studio desk. I liked the sound, but could not stand using the buggy Soundtower editor. And I finally gave up hope of ever seeing the VST version of the editor that DSI kept telling me was in the works for well over two years. Well, at least DSI responded to emails. Since the Mopho first came out, Soundtower responded to exactly 1 of my 15+ emails over the course of the two + years I owned it. I might consider another DSI product down the road (probably not though after this experience), but I would 100% never purchase something that relied on Soundtower software to edit.

well that is certainly disparaging.

This is the first I have heard of the Mopho and it looks pretty neat.

I was only wanting to use it to sequence bass lines and trigger the bass with a Midi base pedal or the "push it" that sort of thing.

The rest of the music I do is digital modules and live instruments (guitar, gk-2, steel guitar, etc) but was thinking this would be great for bass sound effects since they can be programmed and then recalled via midi control track.

But if the editor is that flaky I might have to pass.

Disease Factory is yours on Fleebay or in a thread here 4$? if so what are you asking for the piece of crap? (great sales pitch btw)
in any event you might want to try dumping your software sequence into a hardware device (midi player) and while that is playing use the editor, that might take the strain off the PC, I have seen demos were people were using Logic and Ableton and were still able to edit the Mopho via their software, and Ableton is a real horse when it comes to CPU.

keep shinin

How about the Mopho VST editor from Rekon?

VST-AU Mopho Editor™

Apparently they're working on one for Tetra, I can't wait for it to come out.
