Thread Starter | Audio to Midi - Driving a Step Sequencer in Ableton
Hey there, I have been trying to work out how to do this in Live for quite some time now and have finally thought of asking for help. So, lets say i have an 8 note midi sequence. I want each note to play only when an external audio signal is recieved such as a high hat. So with different patterns on my 808 , it will trigger the next midi note in the sequence. So lets say i had a standard 4/4 bass drum with the highhat on the offbeat. In one bar the high hat would run through 4 notes of the midi sequence, however if i put highhats on everysingle step on the 808 , the sequence would run through 16 midi notes.. The way ive been trying to do it is trying to generate an envelope from the audio to transfer into midi infomation - any suggestions how? And also, is there any way i can use the inbuilt sequencer in live to progress through steps only when midi is recieved. Help needed! |

not sure if its what you're looking for, but check out drumagog, it will generate midi according to audio transients. It will also cycle through a list of samples or randomize within that list.
