Thread Starter | PSP 42 Hawtin live setup... anybody? Does anyone know what kind of settings to use on the Lexicon PSP 42 to get that "looping" sound during a live show, like Hawtin and others use? Thanks for any help ![]() ~Roy

| Doesn't Hawtin do that kind of stuff with Traktor? Dailymotion - Richie Hawtin' Traktor setup, a video from b5c21605a1a66db13b5d6e3b1. Richie, Hawtin, Traktor, Native, Instruments |

Thread Starter | He does use traktor for actual looping yes, though the effect I'm speaking of is def. the psp 42. He cuts out the bass and it sounds like the record is slowing down or speeding up the he turns it off and kicks the low end back in. I've seen other artists use the same exact plug to get the same exact results. Just can't seem to figure it out myself. ~r |

| I guess you would have it as a channel insert and set it 100% wet, but with no delay so it is having no effect on the audio passing thru. Then with your mixer cut the bass, and adjust the delay time and feedback on the PSP42 with a midi controller, then press bypass as you bring the bass back in?

| Achieving that sound is relatively simple. It's 2 effects that he using: one is the delay, the other is just a simple low kill (high pass, whatever..) Johnny Wrong already answered this, but I'll explain in more detail. Set up a delay of your choice on a send, or if you prefer, as an insert. In this case, I'd use king dubby, or audio damage's dubstation. You could just as easily do this with any delay plugin that will let you un-sync the tempo of the delay from the host...... Map a knob on your MIDI controller to the send level/wet level on the delay. Map another to the delay time, and make the sure the delay is not synced to the host's tempo. Then, map a button, key or knob to the on/off of a high-pass filter so that you can cut the lows on your track. When you want to do the effect, cut the lows using the button you mapped to the highpass filter. Bring up the delay send/wet level volume, and play around with the knob mapped to the delay time, which will make the delay speed up and slow down, and if the delay is quality, will change pitch as well. When you're done, put the delay's level back to dry, and bring the lows back in. THat's it, more or less.... on second listen, it sounds like he's using the delay on a send with the wet up very quickly, and the delay is set with a lot of feedback on it as he's tweaking the delay time. This should get you pretty close. Capiche? |

| i'm surprised a little tweaking didn't get you this on your own.. just play with the delay time while audio is runnin through it for that pitchy effect and i guess a high pass filter. theres like 8 knobs for the psp 42. hit play on your sequencer and play with all your plugins. just pick a day and do it. you be surprised all the cool effect and inspiration you will find. short delays are my personal fav. |

| You could also try the Ohmforce delay. To my ears it seems to have a "wilder" nature (more feedback options, flexible mod matrix, distortion, etc.) compared to most plug-ins out there. I still love my Ibanez AD202 though...

| Lives for gear | on some delays you could set the repeat to infinite, activate the send for the delay time, turn off the send, then start fiddling with the delay time. this way you are only pitching just the loop you want. It all goes percussive after long enough anyway. |
