| Lives for gear | What good are Pro midi files now? I have quite a bit of professional ~EXPENSIVE~ session drummer midi files. You know from the big names like Bruford and those cool cats. Deal is Im wanting to make some back ground kits for my Hardware. Equipment: Ensoniq ASR10 Kurzweil K2000 Should I load these up into nuendo 4 and map to some AKAI Wave kits and get something completely unique and rare? Or can these load into my hardware? I also have a collection of ARPS, gateeffects and twiddeley bits files I had wanted to work on and put the analog filters on and also get something completely unique. Do I need a sample converter app or can they load into my hardware or should I built up the stuff my self in Nuendo? When I had a Kurz K2600 I never got midi to load up..

| Are you confusing midi with audio? You can load audio into hardware, but midi is just a data stream used for controlling hardware. I would think your drummer midi-files will work with your hardware, but you need to load some drum sounds (audio) into the hardware to hear the midi.

| Lives for gear | No im not confusing audio with midi. What I wanted to know is can I process the midi files in nuendo 4 and map everything out and make it nice a good sounding then load the midi samples into my ASR and audio and midi and have it play? That way I can keep the size small as I have only 16 megs memory on the ASR. Im told I can have up to 80 files loaded on the ASR and I had wanted to CUE up these files maped to audio files at will. thanks! |

| you should work on your english before posting starting threads like this. Either you don't understand the difference between midi and audio, or your poor english is getting in the way of your point. |

| Lives for gear | Post #1 is perfectly clear. Perhaps you dont know what im asking because you dont know how to do it? Can you map out kits on nuendo 4 and export as Wave and audio and import as ASR format or perhaps a sequence file.. (mid and audio) It's 16 megs max memory plus the midi files cost $200 so id like to make use of then, Would help if you have an ASR I think, I read post #1 and its perfect and clear.. I want to map some kits in nuendo 4 and export to my ASR10, midi and wav. It would help if the person answering actually used midi files and or had a ASR10 not just some guy that has a VSTi pop in and blah blah his 2 cents of drivel. ![]() |

| Lives for gear | Jay-, for what its worth I don't really understand what your asking either. Your first post wasn't that clear to me. I think you are asking: Can you convert AKAI samples into ASR 10 and upload your midi files? I would think so. Check out chicken systems for conversion info. Worst case scenario, if ASR 10 doesn't have disk based midi import, would be to play the midi files from cubase and record them into ASR-10 manually. Which, if you had the patience, you could also do for samples obviouslly. |

| Lives for gear | yeah nothing more then mapping Groove Monkee Funk - Hip Hop - R&B (midi files) and mapping Yellow Tools Pure Drums (wav format) Then exporting as chops, load in track 1 to 8 on the ASR10, and load sequences in midi format into the ASR10 and have it play. Ill just chill out till my SCSI equipment gets delivered, |

| Would love to help as I have an ASR-10 I use almost every day...but I am also confused. Exporting as chops? What do you mean by mapping? What is a MIDI sample? Are you trying to load single drum hit sounds into your ASR-10 and then load a standard MIDI file into the it's sequencer and have it play the samples? Hopefully these tips can help answer your questions: ASR 10 will not read wav. files, in some cases, it will read most Roland & Akai formats. The ASR won't automatically map drum sounds. Many times, even when loading Akai samples, they may appear in different locations on the keyboard. The ASR reads MIDI files and Audio files as two separate types of files. The ASR 10 won't trigger Standard MIDI files from it's sequencer via the keyboard, it will only trigger samples. Any drum sounds triggered by the ASR-10 sequencer will require you to have certain drum sounds on certain keys for them to sound correct. Hopefully this helps Jay, best of luck.

| Lives for gear | I attached a DEMO file so no copyright issues.. Its from twiddly bits Master Series - LA Riot Drum Loops MIDI SEQUENCE Within Nuendo 4 What I do is load a good sounding midi sequence then also load my old trusty AKAI CD and import as a wav, clap, mids, bass, high hat, tamb, snake, Kick. Can I do that with the ASR10 or am I just over complicating my self. Perhaps I need a "groove box" Can I convert the .MID into a asr10 sequence and get far far better drumming mapped to audio in my ASR10 then I could ever get. Im obviously not after GM or XG midi sounds just the expert drum sequence. OR should I make these on Nuendo then export as a ASR10 (translator) file? ![]() |

| I'm not sure how easy or possible it is to import 3rd party midi files into workstations like the Ensoniq or Kurzweil. You can send the midi-file out of Nuendo via a midi interface to trigger sounds in the ASR10. |

| Lives for gear | alexP, why be a dick and attempt to answer things you dont know about. This is all super old school stuff not VSTi or any of that. Im trying to recreate all that old school vibe using 1990's kit, 1990's midi files (recorded on midi drums) and mapped out to my hardware samplers. Its just an artistic attempt on my part using the upmost basic stuff, 16 megs sampler, 650 meg akai drum kits and old school pre hiphop midi files. chrisso, thanks I see Nuendo 4 and also Wavelab 6 has send midi file out to sampler. I will try that. |
