What's wrong with this bassline?!

Hey guys,

Well i played at a party sometime back & when one of my new tracks came on there was something that was bothering me about the bassline.

It almost seemed like it was in the wrong key & didn't fit with the rest of the track. It sounds fine when i play it on my monitors & other systems though. I can't blame it on the PA either as all the other tracks were playing fine, it was just this particular track that sounded strange.

Can anyone here have a listen to see what might be wrong with it? Maybe it has something to do with the processing?

You can stream it here:
Streaming Getafix - Existance @ BeatBiz

Thanks!

Sounds ok to me, I would guess it was the resonant frequency of the PA/Room, bass can sometimes sound out of tune on certain systems in certain rooms because of this. If this dominant resonant frequency is close to the dominant resonance of the bass line it can mess with it.

I do hear a lot of 100hz or something in the line which I find a bit fatiguing, just on my computer speakers with sub.

You got me!

Naah, seriously at the time it almost seemed that i had somehow written the bassline in the wrong key or something. Nobody on the dancefloor seemed to notice though! I guess the explanation probably has something to do with what Space Station said above.

Now that i think about it, i was pretty high at the time!

the only thing that i think is lacking in the bass line (for psy/goa) is that it needs to flow a bit more, like filter mod or an aux send to a phaser or something like that. also, for a hook, i think the bass line needs a change in filter closed to open.. or something like that.

sounds good to me, pretty clean for psy though, but i like

Not anytime soon! Thing is, i make progressive music as well so i have half an albums worth of progressive tracks & half an albums of psytrance one's.

On top of that i'm currently mixing a commercial album for a client & taking care of the family business during the day. So i don't have a lot of time to work on my music.

deeper

just a question of taste.
psytrance lately seem to have no bass couse its so cleared out from anny subs.
to me in manny tracks it seems the bass is the lead()
try something
give kick and bass one group channel and use a multiband compressor to get it a bit more deep.
also the volume of K&B is important.
emagine this nice bassline deeper but not muddy.
but like i say....just my taste :-)
keep gointhumbsup

it sounds great but i think it lacks of low bass freq, add a second bass line track (same midi notes) to push only the low freq of the bass (alittle), compress the two together to taste.

many psy artist does that, in GMS/Astral P. tracks you will find 3-4 bass lines tracks of different freq compressed. however you will not noticed it when just listening, it all mixed together to one big fat bass line.

some sweeps eweeeeee, makes the bass line feel in wrong key.

maybe becouse are sharing the same mid freq range.
the bass has too much highs, or the sweep has too much lows,
thats personal taste. artist vision, etc...
try a -6 -12 -18 -24dB/oct low pass.
or a Hipass for the sweeps

On my home setup, it sounds completely fine. However, the bass line does tend to go into the upper regions of bass. I suspect that the room was adding harmonics to those specific frequencies. Go back to that bass line and add a low pass filter above 300hz and it 'should' help.

Otherwise the bass line (and the track) is fine.

EDIT: Ok, now I'm going to nitpick now since you opened the door. The bass line could use a bit more note separation. It seems to get muddy when it changes notes fast.
