Roland JX3P Manual/Programming?

Hey,
I've been looking for a version of the manual for the jx3p online and haven't had much luck. Just need a quick tutorial on how to create/edit patches really, messed around with it and couldn't get it to work. If you have any info it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Joseph

yea, it's pretty darn easy for anyone familiar with analog synthesis concepts...it's certainly minimal parameters and self explanatory, it's not like trying to edit a d50, or dx7, or m1.

frankly, the programmer is pretty unnecessary...though kinda fun...for the jx-3p

Yeah, but when I had my JX3P it made it so much easier. Especially because I was new to synthesis.

I just got a JX-3P yesterday, and man, do I love it. For the price you can pick one up on eBay, it's a no-brainer!

A question, though, for the more seasoned users: I have everything working just fine except for the MIDI Input. I can record MIDI from the keyboard to the PC just fine, but it doesn't seem to receive any MIDI from my PC. I know everything is set up properly on the PC, and it's definitely sending it--but, I know there are some hidden settings on this thing, so is it possible that I need to change some setting somewhere, or is it more likely that my MIDI In port is just screwed?

I hope it's the former, because I really the synth to be able to receive MIDI notes--I can't play accurately enough in real time.

Anyway, great synth, even without the programmer. With only 32 different parameters to tweak, it doesn't take long at all before you're memorizing the parameter numbers.

If you tried all the channels 1-16 and still doesn't work - then you got the problem in JX midi board. Sorry.

To fully exclude the PC (and its issues), try to connect MIDI OUT from JX into its own MIDI IN and see if you get double notes / halved polyphony (sort of unison sound). That should indicate it works.

Good call. That helped me realize what the issue was. You have to have the switch on the back set to "Programmer" to save patches, but it won't receive MIDI Input until you switch it back. Simple enough. Thanks for the suggestion!

jx-3p dead keys

hello, i own a jx-3p and i recently fixed 3 dead keys which were all connected to the same track on the keys pcb. the keys were dead because of a corroded track. after bypassing the track with a wire the keys work but are not in correct pitch. when i played a note near the note that i fixed, the same note came out. this also happened with the other notes that i fixed.

does the resistance of the bypassed wire has to be the same as the pcb tracks resistance, or may be there is an ic which is burnt??

can anyone help me with this problem??

Hey. I too have a JX and a question.

Programming with the slider there appears to be parameters I can not change.

These include selecting wave forms and envolope settings. Is this right?
Do I have to have the PG 200 or the Organix Tool shed kit to control parameters?
Seems strange that I can not access all of them as is.
Thanks.

You have to change those with the first 3 preset-selection buttons, not with the slider . Compare the blinking lights between patches where you know different waveforms are used.

No, but that might be a worthwhile purchase anyway .

I think I know what's wrong here. To change those settings, use the bank select switch instead of the slider.
