Thread Starter | Nord Lead 1 patches readable by Nord Lead 2?
Hey kids, I have an old nord lead I keyboard. I don't use it often (been liking my other synths better for most stuff - please don't flame me ...but I do have some very odd patches on the little red swede that are just trippy as hell, that I just can't duplicate on anything else and love. The unit I have has the voice expansion and the PCMCIA slot for storing extra patches. Now someone in my area is selling a Nord Rack 2 at a very tempting price (and I'm trying to downsize as many keyboards into their rack equivalents as possible as I accumulate more - but the big question I can't seem to get an answer to is: If I save patches from the Nord Lead onto its PCMCIA card, then stick the card into a Nord Lead 2, will the 2 be able to load the paches? I know the feature set is somewhat expanded on the 2 ...LFO extras, ring mod... but if the other elements are the same.... Well, it's software, so I just have no friggin clue ![]() The objective would be to grab the rack, get an upgraded version, still be able to play the old patches, and that way, be able to sell the Nord Lead 1 keyboard. Anyone know? Beuller? Anyone? Thanks. Earl |

The Nordlead 2 was a huge step up from the Nordlead 1. The ND2 can read ND 1 patches via sysex dump, just not the other way around. Cards are usualy formatted for their readers. I do know there was an issue with ver. 1.04 on the ND 2 erasing some memory slots on it's cards. It was repared in ver 1.06, but I wouldn't take a chance, back-up your patches via sysex dump before attempting anything. In any event, if you have a ND1, it would be totally worth it to upgrade to a ND2 anyhow and just reprogram your sounds adding newances from the ND2. The polyphony alone makes a big difference.

| Gear maniac | So what? I'm late to the party. Probably done about 4 hours of research on the Nord Lead 1 this week.
