808

Hi there,

For one week, we had a really nice original 808 in our studio. For our own purposes, we sampled it in high quality (808->Millennia Origin -> Apogee AD16X@96kHz->Protools) without any processing. Actually, we sampled more ore less all options the 808 offeres (f.e. on the bassdrum, 11 different decays and 11 different tones, = 121 kick drums :)
Also, from that, we made another instrument, the Ph808, processed with stuff like Manley MassivePassive, Distressors, Tubetechs and so on.

So, now we have two really nice instruments, and I wonder if you guys out there would like to have that as well. We also work as a content-provider for Native Instruments etc., so we are aware that there are gazillions of 808s already available. So if nobody is interested, no problem, we use it ourselves. :)
But if there are some guys who'd spend 50 bucks or so, we would release it.

Anyone interested?
Sorry for my german english..

Sebastian

I am sure Battery/Kontakt, Reason ReDrum, ESX24, Wav & Aiff combo sample pack would sell.
$25-50 as a download maybe.
Sure lots of people have the sounds, but many still want em' too.

sorry for that, but the studio (and we) have to make money.. :)
And if we make an instrument for Kontakt/.., we have to script a lot..

Maybe an option would be to sell the instruments and/or the hires-samples and give away some samples as mp3 for free.

I always have heaps amounts of respect for people who do these things, who sit down and sample an instrument meticulously, but the 808? Again?
I mean how many times do I have to hear this thing any longer? I have enough of these ****ing Roland machines... nobody seems to be interested in original drum sounds anymore. If I didn't do them myself I'd be more interested to get my hands on samples done on a modular, special drum synth software (Attack, Ultrabeat) or the Machine Drum.

Rant over

You aim a little bit high my friend. My Roland JD-990 bank for NI Kontakt will probably not cost that much. Yet i spent 2 months programming the beast. Plus a lot of time for sampling, editing, looping, etc. You spent... what... 50 minutes to sample a rhythm machine (?).

I wouldn't give more than $10 for TR-808 samples as they already exist on at least 100 different sample cd roms, of which some go cheap as $40, yet they feature the full content of various synths, not just the 808 rhythm machine(!).

EDIT: By the way, as far as i can remember, TR-808 sample bank already exists online as a freeware. Someone sampled it @ 44.1 and put it online. I'll post a link as soon as i find it.

Personally, I covet the 808 kick drum, and use it in a majority of my tracks as my Sub-bass of choice. However, I already have a ton of them, many of which are already well recorded (i.e.: Goldbaby, NI Battery, Roland Samples, Sonic Specialists, synthesiszed plugin versions such as the Ultrabeat stuff, etc...)

To be honest, I would be VERY interested if they were the 808 to end all 808's: In other words, larger, punchier, and more "ready to use" than any other 808 I own. That being said, because I already have a lot a really good 808 samples, I doubt I'd be willing to spend $50 unless it was a really special product.

However, if it really is that good, and is clearly that much better than all those other 808's on the market, I would be potentially *very* interested.

I agree with the poster above: Perhaps that price point is a little high?

Perhaps build the samples into a VST sp that the samples change, albeit in about 10 % increments, while turning the virtual knobs of the 808 looking VST.

I would much prefer that to having to scroll through samples and having to load different ones in a sampler.

You can never have enough drum samples.
I don't mind paying when someone has worked hard on something.
In this highly competitive area (Roland rhythm box samples), I think $50 is way too high.
Where I live you can rent an 808 for less than $50 and do your own samples.

sorry for sampling the 808..

reading helps. I mentioned it would be a lot of scripting involved (Kontakt).

But, anyway, it seems there is not so much interest, it even seems to offend certain people, so we will just use it ourselves.
Ah, bitrate is 24bit, of course.

Regarding the price: Since we are in Euroland, the dollar-price has to suffer, I'm sorry.

Anyone really interested can write a PM.

All the best from berlin!

I think... if anyone want to spend some money for some good quality 808 samples he will buy the goldbaby 808 kit... it only costs 19$ (wav) - 24$ (battery, reason, ...) and you get samples from two ! 808 machines ... recorded clean and with tape....

so now 'kosmokrat' that's where you have to compete...

EOT

Hey guys,

thanks for answering to all of you. Bottom line is that there is obviously (almost) no need for that kind of product. And there is no point for me selling it for $10 or so.
Maybe we will release it for free for people who buy our upcoming instruments, maybe just use it ourselves..

We'll see.. As said before, anyone really interested can send me a PM.

Thanks again!-)

That is the bit depth, or word length. Bit rate is completely different, as I'm sure you know.

Mine does
These guys do a great midi kit and it doesnt involve any drilling/ modding the 808, reconfigures the din port for midi or din (using switch)

CHD ELEKTROSERVIS

Something so pure in tone about an 808, lovely machine..

Thumbs up kosmokrator

Props to you.

You've held your own with a lot of bashers and nay-sayers — yes, many points mentioned by others here are valid points...

However.

I like your resolve, spirit and professionalism in your responses none-the-less.

Im sure you'll continue to do well as a content provider to NI etc.

All the best.

I may just PM you one day if the need arises

Yes, shame indeed.

In regards to your original question: actually I think lots of people would pay $50 for a big selection of well-sampled 808 sounds, if you marketed them well. You know, "The MOST authentic 808 sounds there are" "As good as the real thing" etc.

People will just assume the free ones aren't as good.
