First ever hardware synth you owned!

So i just got my first hardware synth, a roland sh 101.

coming from quite a few soft synths to my first hardware synth is like stepping out of the frying pan and into the fire. its hot to work with!!! and oh so much better than twisting knobs with a mouse

what was your first ever hardware synth???

if you count a casio HT-3000 as a synth then one of them...

If not , a Yamaha V50 FM workstation

Minimoog, 1973, not a lot of choice in those days.

Oberheim Matrix-6 in 1987 or 1988.

To soon be followed by a Ensoniq EPS and a Roland R-8.

Man, I learned to squeeze alot of music out of that setup.

Cheers, Rob

SCI - Six Trak

A synth with a few more knobs would have been better to have started out on. Can't deny the sound of the Six Trak though.

YAMAHA PSR18, which my parents bought me in 1987. It had a rudimentary Digital Synthesizer with only 16 available options. But it was enough for a 8 year old not having a clue about music but ambitious nonetheless .

My first piece of gear was Kurzweil K2000 VP - I sold it two years ago, but recently I am thinking about getting one second hand. I think that is one of the best synths ever made - the VAST architecture was ahead of its time by a decade - even now its a real beast. It lacks the „knobs”*to twist, but with todays midi controllers I think its possible to set it up nicely - and it sounds so nice!!! Not to mention the super cool onboard sequencer and sampler

First synth I bought was a JX-8P with the PG-800. That was back in 1986. It was a toss up between that and the DX-7 at the time, but the Soundtrack patch won me over

My first hardware synth was a Quasimidi Sirius in about 2000 (I was 16 at the time.) Fantastic entry into synthesis/sequencing as it had a little of everything (step and real time sequencing, piano roll of a sort, VA engine, vocoder etc.) The only problem with them was that, if I remember correctly, they had some strange battery/OS problem where after a few years from their manufacture date, you lost all of your patches, and all of your sequences/songs would assign random patches to each part. They went out of business about 3 days before mine crashed, and when I went to go to their website for tech support, it had already been sold to a German porn site Somehow, I still managed to get $900 for it on Ebay, and I flipped that right into a Waldorf Q keyboard

Roland Juno 1 in 1987, when I was 11. Saved up 1/2 the cost from my paper route and gift money and my parents matched the rest.

Borrowed a Yamaha SK-10 in 1985 (bought that exact unit some years ago for nostalgic reasons).
Bought Korg Poly-800 with reverse-colored keys in 1985. Sold it shortly after, have Poly-800II with Moogslayer and Filter mods.
Bought blue Roland SH-101 with grip in 1985. Still have that, now modded with inbuilt Mike Matthews Soul Kiss, blue LEDs and clear illuminated bender!
