x0xb0x

So i've started building an x0xb0x. Been waiting for a kit for a long time! So far i've gotten the Power Supply Board built and tested. Just finished the VCO today, but it hasn't been tested yet. Waiting on my oscilloscope and i still gotta build a variable power supply. The VCF is finished as well. So far, the build has been going really well. Still need to cut down the rest of the pot shafts all to the same size. Dremel is your friend! Got the 2 highest beta 733Ps in the filter section. I expect to have it totally built by Tuesday night at the latest. Then when my o-scope arrives, i can do all the fine tuning and testing to really complete it.

how difficult is it ?

I have no understanding of what any of the bits do or how they work and the most soldering I've done is to change a slider in a JD800.

A friend has ordered the parts himself and has 2x sets.... do you think I would be able to complete a build on my own even though I am clueless ?

Lots of people have built these that have had 0 electronics back ground. Just make sure you have everything in right, and don't place the wrong components in the wrong spots. This is the most soldering i've ever done. And i really have no back ground in electronics either =o]

that's the problem.

The full kits aren't available anymore, you need to buy the board and then source the bits yourself. I've been told it isn't too hard to get the bits , probably about 4 or 5 different places.

I wouldn't trust ebay though with all the faulty/fake chips floating around.

Looks like you are doing a great job, very neat. High beta transistors are also essential for the square wave. You shouldn't require an oscilloscope, you can do most of the tuning and tweaking by ear and a volt meter, or just use some trial software available on the net. Brings back memories...it is so satisfying building your own 303!

can you elaborate on that? i have a xoxbox and the square wave doesnt sound like the square wave on my TB303. The xox square sounds more like a skewed saw wave (and looks like one too on an oscilloscope). i am looking to get it sounding more square please!

$950 is about average for a completed x0xb0x. Start adding mods, and they can go even higher. As is, i bet can get $1500 for mine. Not that i'd ever sell it =o]

i got mine for 450€ on ebay

The average price for a xoxbox ( without mods ) shouldn t be more than 600€ considering the retail price is 350€ IMO ( add 300 for the build is fair but not more ...).

For 950 i d better buy a real tb303 ...

You're talking in Euros, not US dollars. HUGE difference. 600eu is about $900, so it's right on your mark. It's still less than half of what 303s sell for now. Most people know they'll never get on the list, never get a kit, and will never have the ability to build a kit. So they pay what they have to to get a fully working assembled unit. The kits themselves sell for $600 second hand. Crazy, but true.
