| Gear nut | Studio setup : how do you use your synth ? Hello, A stupid question but how do you use your synth in your studio ? I've a, Virus TI, a Nord Wave and a Nord Rack 2X. How would you use this synth in the same song (Minimal Techno or Tech-House) : Virus TI : what would you create with it ? Nord Wave : what would you create with it ? Nord Rack 2X : what would you create with it ? Cheers, Vincent

| I don't really understand the question. With each of them you create... music? Find/make a sound you like, lay the track down, move on, no? |

| I think he's maybe asking which machine you might prefer for each part. Like maybe Nord Rack 2 for the bass, Virus TI for the pads etc. ? |

Not to come across as a d**k, but you should really figure this out yourself. The music you create is about you and your individual creativity. Sounds like you bought all these synths and now you need to know what each one does ![]() Start by using one synth, then find a 'sound' on the other synth that compliments the first one and so on...Get to know your sounds and build up a taste for each synth. | |

| the synths I got here have a character. if I want mean piercing bass I use de XT if I want fat bass it's the ARP if I want sequenced kraftwerk type bass I'll go to the doepfer if I want hiphop bass I'll use the emu and there's variations in combinations too.. etc. hope this helps with your quest ![]()

| Lives for gear | If your doing techno, use each instrument to build up percussion. Record all that. Get a good bassline, a good sfx thing going and start building groove. And last but not least, dont use the same machine for the same thing. For basslines I have used my minimoog, MS10, Alpha Juno 1 Korg Prophecy, or JX3P. Dont be afraid to take a "non bass" instrument and make it do your bidding! The beauty and advancement of the genre depends on sounds. Hell use a Mirage for a bassline. That would be sick! (scuttles away to the Mirage......) Good luck. alexP |

| there's no rules. make sounds on your synths and use them where they sound good. it doesn't matter. spend time programming sounds and learning your synths and you'll figure out what things you like from them and what things you think they do well. you aren't going to find those answers on any forum

| Lives for gear | Just grab each of your synths, twiddle the knobs until you've made a sound you like. Record some parts with it. Build up from there. Go back and fill in the gaps. |

| I understand you may be asking which synths are generally known for "kinds" of parts, fair enough... But, I'd suggest going with what sounds good to you and more importnatly, something unexpected and original. If one synth is known as the "Hip Hop" synth, us it for an whole different genre and so on. It's the new and unexpected results of that kind of thinking that make us make those generalizations anyway. -andrews ![]() |

But the three synths mentioned seemed more general use keyboards than masters of bass, or pad machine etc. Also, why would you buy three relatively expensive keyboards and 1) not understand their strengths and weaknesses, 2) not have any particular plan for ways to use them?
