2.1 System or 8" monitors?

Hello, Im looking for a second set of monitors (second hand around $600)with good bass. I already have a set of genelec 8040 which I love, the sub for them goes for $2k or more and I dont really want to settle for less with the genelecs...... so, Im looking for a set of monitors that can play louder and reveal more bass than the genelecs.
I was interested in the 2.1 systems such as the blue sky, but I dont really know if going for a 2.1 systeam would be better than getting a set of monitors with an 8" woofer.
what comes to mind for 2.1 are Blue sky media desk, samson stuff.
For larger monitors Im thinking of Mackie 824, KRK V8, M-audio EX-66(not 8" but..), Samson Rubicon 8 ( had the 5" and loved them).
Suggestions? thank you

I don't think you will be happy with anything in that price range. I have a set of Mackie HR824's and I wanted the same thing. I checked subs up to around $500 and none of them could compete with the 824's. It actually made them sound worse. On top of that the Mackie sub is a fortune, but the only one that has enough juice to give me that night club low end.
I'm looking into small PA set ups now. If accuracy is important then this is not the route to go, but if you want to hear how things translate loud, it can be beneficial. Still ... at $600 I don't think you will be happy with anything you find new or used.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, I actually saw the new and cheaper version of the mackies with 8" woofer, and also a saw a used pair of krk vxt8 for $630.
Also behiringer came out wit new truth monitors with ribon and 8.7" woofer.. would look kinda funny behringer next to the genelecs though.

I'd advise against the truth monitors. I'm sure they sound reasonably good, but I've read too many reviews from people whose monitors were DOA.

Those Berry Truths are awful - had them in my studio for a week as a temporary fill-in while my Wharfedale reference monitors were repaired.

Not good.

Those KRKs are great!!
I have a pair at work and they are IMO the best thing at that price point.
I got a pair of the V6's at home and they have excellent bass for the size with a 6" woofer.

I just got a pair of the Mackies MR-8, I compared them to the KRK VXT-8 and the new Rokit 8,and while the KRK sounded very nice I really liked the bass on the Mackies better. Especially for the amazing price of $ 500 the pair. I put them next to my Genelecs 8040 and the Mackies are so much more suitable for hearing the bass sounds. Im very happy I got them...I will use the Mackies for drum and bass mixing/jamming and will do final mixes of everything else with the Genelecs. I love this combo so far paired with Central Station

Those Behringer are crap. its just hard to get a good sub to compliment a pair of gens with out blowing a ton of money. More than the gens in many cases.

If you look at the Mackie HR824's the sub that goes with it is over $1,200. Thats the cheap one. They used to have one that was around $1,600. Crazy expensive, but for clean detailed low distortion low end to compliment my HR824's I have not found anything that can do the job for less money. I think the Gens are gong to be in this same boat. A cheap sub will only make it sound worse.
