Sounds like a good setup Fluxpod. Correct me if I am mistaken, I was surprised to find out that the Echo AudioFire 8 is designed by M-Audio. A Multiface 1 IMO is way better than any Digidesign/M-Audio converter.

I read somewhere that the Duet sounds similar to the Ensemble and not as nice as having a Rosetta 800. It may be a great way to go for thx1138.

Hey Poppbot.I have no idea who designs the audiofire 8 just know the echo brand.I suggested the converter to a good mate and he found it absolutly excellent(home use) He is using it with adam a7.I tried it in the shop and...well its very very close to the rme stuff and even accelerates in the highs over it imo.For that price it is a steal! I heard..in a review here that an a/b test with the rosetta and the audiofire 8 was made and ..people were choosing the echo more often then the rosetta,as i have limited exp with the apogee i have NO idea if it holds value but its worth checking out imo.The drivers of the echo are also TOP my mate plugged it into the build in fw ( texas inst) and it just worked even at low latency.I mean its under 500$? It is worth checking! If you dont like it...rme ff400 or multiface.Or if you want to drown yourself into endless possibilities...creamware(sonic core now).

If you only plan on using the Duet for D/A, get the Benchmark DAC1 USB instead. Best equipment purchase I've made in years and way more detailed and transparent than the Apogee it replaced.

Damn straight Fluxpod, sounds like it's totally worth checking out! Mojo Pie -- Review of Lucid AD 9624 Lucid 9624, also in the $500 range and have seen them on eBay go for as little as $350! The Lucid is definately a step up from PT LE. Great info Fluxpod thanks for sharing.

The Echo Audiofire, nor any Echo products, are designed by M-audio. In fact the opposite is true. Echo actually does design work for other companies like Mackie. Read some more Echo threads here at Gearslutz. You'll find that most people love them and consider them to be worth way more than what you pay for them. I'm about to buy the Layla3G or Audiofire 8 myself, and I currently own an M-audio Delta 1010. I definitely wouldn't be moving UP to an Echo product unless I had read so many people saying that they are a great bang for the buck and most certainly better than most any M-audio product.

I'm going down the same path but its not really by choice, more like financial necessity at the moment.

I sold just about EVERYTHING I owned this past year--lots ov vintage gear that was absolutely heartbreaking to let go ov but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'm actually looking into a similar set-up as yourself. Either a Mono Evolver Keyboard or PolyEvolver and an Akai MPC for drums with the addition ov a Doepfer A-100 down the road.

Some ov the best songs I ever wrote were written on a Sequential Circuits Pro~One, an Emu esi-32 sampler, and a Roland R8 drum machine. Sometimes a handful ov select hardware pieces that you know really well can streamline the process, often with better results than a plethora ov gear thats never hooked up half the time.

Slimming down is good. Allows more focus and productivity with the synths at hand. I've sold my Moog Rogue, Waldorf Micro Q, Minikorg, and Roland TR-707. I will probably sell my Moog LP, Korg Micro X, JV1080, and Korg EMX-1.

My home studio is only my Prophet '08, Virus TI Polar, Motif 6, and Fantom XR. For gigs, I use a Motif rack with the TI Polar. Done.

Before you go selling most of your hardware, put it in a closet and make a test minimal set up to see how you like it before you go getting rid of anything. That way you'll have less seller's remorse.

Nice handle BTW. ;)

I'm going for a Sonic Core Scope Xite (when it's released over the next couple weeks) hooked up to my main laptop loaded with Samplitude Pro.
