| Well, I like House and some of that is from Chicago. It`s not exclusively Chicago for me though. Anyway: Hi, fellow Chicago House fan. |

| Hard to tell because when I think of chicago house, I think of things like the 'future sound of chicago' on cajual with dajae, gemini, terence fm... The sound coming out of any given city is so muffled... In my opinion the closest thing to those cats from chicago now is people like ralf gum, raw artistic soul and maybe labels like Black vinyl... but that's just my opinion.

| Some organisers sadly have disappeared here, but it's still going on in clubs in Amsterdam. Be it less than a few years ago.

| Im only 26 but i grew up on chicago house music. I was born and raised on the north side.Djing has been in my family since the 1200 was made. My older cousin was pretty well known back in the day as a dj and my older brother and i followed his footsteps. My brother and I ran mixtape shops all around the city. We were the first people to start small booths in the isles of shopping malls selling local dj mixes. Chicago house music has changed with times but elements of the old skool can still be heard to this day. Minmal drums with erie pads and 303 rips and roars where the foundation for a lot music to come. I still have contact with a lot of the djs and few are still doing music. Many moved on to greener pastures musicly and became ghost hip hop producers or moved on to mastering houses and engennier work. I know countless hits that were manufactured here but sold to big lables for little money just so they could afford rent or a car payment. very sad It wasnt till i got sick of hearing the same garabge over and over.Distored 909 kicks and high pitched annyoing loops is not what i call chicago house. In the mid 90's HardHouse was the fad. I must admit i like some songs off the UC(underground construction) label but it got stale. It was then I decided to move from djing to production. I have carefully put toegether a gear list and done a lot of homework. Im ready now to lay stuff down.I too was sidetracked doing other projects.Hip Hop and drug induced Acid Techno. Thank Guy Mcaafer and Chris Liberator for that:)...Im currently making an album called "We Are His House" Its basicly my vison of the house from my younger days till now. The first single is modern remake of Adonis-Were Rocking Down The House. The distored guitar lead is ROCKIN indeed. Check Jaime Principals latest with green velvet- la la la la... its good snap shot of were chicago house is. You hear the classic vibe but with a electro twist. |

| Hi Guys, I was around for the birth of it in the Early 80's, it was an Amazing, Electrifying and Exciting times for House Music. it was nuts watching DJ's sell over a 100,000 copies of a record done with just a simple drum machine and a 4 track cassette! (CR78, 707,727,909 or 808) But still magical.i still have Cassettes in crawlspace with hot mix shows from the only station in the world playing House Music at the time (WBMX).Being part for the birth of it, in Chicago, just simply incredible! I Loved it! I Think if you go to WBMX.com they still have hot mix shows from the 80's there. |

| I live in Michigan and was probably in Chicago every weekend in the mid to late 90's watching Derrick Carter, and some of the people mentioned here. House music is a evolving genre, as is electronic music, that was what made house so magical then. Strictly Rhythm is back and running now, and there are some new school talents like Justin Long and a few others coming out of Chicago still. It was cool then, I've seen so many acts from boo williams, Glenn Underground etc etc, but also in the same night Carl Cox would play, there used to be alot of diversity in the shows, hopefully that continues. Anyway the music I think is alive, but techno and house are evolving just like they were then.

| Oh yes! Ron Carroll even got a pretty big commercial / club hit here with "Walking Down The Street". Very much that old chicago bassline sound I think. I like stuff a little deeper at times. I have a lot of early 90s late 80s chicago stuff, the chicago sound had a huge influence on the dutch housescene from the 90s wich can still be heard today IMO. Some of that older stuff fits in perfectly with todays minimal and electro sounds too. I personally visited the city for the first time a few months ago; what a friggin cool place! No wonder it got its own sound.

| Quote: I think house music never really got it's due in US iz because it started the same time as Hip Hop. I remember having a huge argument with a friend about House and that it would be bigger than Hip Hop in the 80's. Guess I was wrong huh..... My favorite songs from back then that I still remember and will never forget are 1. House Music Anthem (Gotta Have House) by Marshall Jefferson. Which started the whole House Music craze back then in my opinion. 2. Faces Of Drums...Sorry I use to DJ bigtime and remember this stick beat and in the clubs....People would loose it when it came on. Luv It...That's how I know about all of these.....I owned them 3. If You Only Knew- Chip E...The first real singing House Joint that created interest by big labels in house. 4. Jack Your Body- Steve Silk Hurley (Farley Mix Made that banging though) When all the music stopped and it was just saying "Jack Jack Jack Jack ya Body" started that repeating movement in House. 5. Strings Of Life- Kevin Sanderson (I think or Derrick May) WOWOWOWOW...This song til this day is my fav. I went to London on a writing trip and my A&R took me to a club (Gay Club-Why Man Why-Not that it's anything wrong with that... ) and when they played that....I leaned over to him and said this song still has it. Wish I still had my record collection.6. Time To Jack- Chip E again....This dude had a swag that no one else had. 7. Yo Yo Get Funky- Fast Eddie....Was the first Hip House song that got my attention. One because it took from a Hip Hop song that I loved at the time which was Rob Base and Ez Rock song and one of my all time fav's from Africa Bambatta (Sorry if I spelled that wrong) and made it bang. Of course their were others before this but, this made the biggest impact and started the Hip House kraze. 8. That's The Way Love Is- Ten City....Not because I danced for them but, this was a song that made House a Household name. Plus Byron, when he did this in concert, people would lose it. And at that time I didn't know house could be that big. 9. Free At Last (Free James Brown)- Farley Jackmaster Funk....Hahaha, well I love this song and the beat was krazy banging. I also did the video with Farley as one of the dancers if you've ever seen it. It was great. Farley was a great guy as well. If anyone can get this video for me I would be very grateful. 10. Get Busy- Mr Lee.....OK, this is kind of a tripped out story about this song. If anybody from here used to go to the Riveria nightclub in it's hay day you probably know who I was. Well, I was dancing there with a friend of mine and someone pulled him aside and said, "would you and your friend be willing to do a music video dancing?" He said sure, he came and told me and I was like cool. Who is he? He said Mr Lee. I didn't know who he was and I didn't put 2 & 2 together as I owned one of his records called "I Can't Forget"but, we had to be there the next day at 4am in the morning. On the ride home in the car this song came on and it was Get Busy. We were like, wow that song is great. It happened to be the last song in the mix (WGCI) and they happened to say "That was a new song by the one and only Mr Lee." We lost it. We couldn't believe we were getting ready to do a video wit the guy. I had just learned some leg moves from Bobby Brown when he was on Arsenio Hall show and we just happen to have some of the white dookie pants and wore them to the shoot. The rest is history. Those leg moves in the video were me and my friend and Mr Lee's dancer Robbie G. whom later became one of my best friends to date. I also did another video wit him called Pump That Body. I'm the tall white/black dude. I miss those days. Hahahaha...... YouTube - Mr Lee - Get Busy YouTube - Mr. Lee Pump That Body (1990) Marc
