Hello all and an opinion required please.

Hello all,

Just a little about myself.

I make electronic orientated music.I have been surfing this forum on and off for a while (mainly for support issues) but I tend not to contribute to forums as I would prefer to spend my precious little free time making music.

My question is this:

I want to sell my Yamaha SY85. I think it is still a great synth but I never use it as I just use software these days (it's so much more convenient). The SY85 is just stored away and never used and probably won't ever be, though I recently plugged it in and played around. It' is still a great synth.

My dilemma is that I have put it up for sale in a local rag and the best price I have been offered is 200 Euros (about 155 English pounds and about 315 US dollars). I think it is worth more, or is it? I feel I would be far better off keeping it than selling it for that price. Though I would never use it.
What do you think I should do? Accept the offer or not? Could sample based synthesis make a come back like analog did. I used to own an SH 101 and sold it for a pittance. If I had held on much longer I would have got a lot more for it when it was trendy to own one again.

I look forward to your replies.

I just recently dumped $6,500 worth of gear on ebay for $4,200. Trying to streamline my workflow, gain some space and upgrade my signal chain.

It's kind of got me down, but I think my decision will go a long way in getting me closer to "that sound" I'm after and that's what matters most.

I'm still optimistic.

New Ashly mixer, RME interface, Eventide effects, MPC-500.....

If you're not really using it, sell it for something you need. I don't see the Yamaha SY85 really coming back into vogue like an SH-101 or TB-303 etc.

Sometimes you just need to move on because change can be a good thing.

I totally agree. I have had to sell equipment I didn't want to get rid of because of dumb reasons like "I paid so much for it" or "I have had that for so long". In the end, if you don't use it, turn it into something you will use. I turned a Digi 001, Yamaha SQ2, Akai AX-60 and some other useless items into a Moog Voyager thanks to eBay.

Anything is possible these days. We all have regrets at some point or another about gear we used to have. At the SY85's going prices you have to ask yourself, "Would I buy this synth again?"
