What sound library would you recommend?

I'm trying to decide which sound library I'm going to buy, I've been thinking about buying Spectrasonics Distorted Reality 2 since I liked the demo.
Problem is, they're all way to expensive to just take chance.

So: do you have any suggestions? What would you recommend?

it really depends on what sounds you want!

if you just want i.e. a great collection of basic sounds like
drums and bass for "dance music" you can't go wrong picking up one
of those vengeance sample cd's.

personally i would not buy stuff like Spectrasonics Distorted Reality 2.
it might be great to have for post-production (tv, radio, movie ...) but
imho the sounds on this sample cd are way to "explicit".
i don't like layering ready-made samples and call it a song.
but that's just me ...

Yeah, I see your point.
Maybe I should explain what I need it for. The plan is to add a layer of sounds and samples to accent certain parts of an already "finished" song. I'm thinking industrial and ambient sounds.

DR1 + 2 were and are superb . Still being used all over the media and in everything from post production to major film scores. I still use bits of these every now and again and millions of others use them too. There is a reason that many pro's still use these sounds in addition to they're other arranged / programmed / orchestrated tracks .... They are Just THAT GOOD !

For thoes who are unaware, blissfully ignorant . Eric Persings ( Mr Spectrasonics - prior to being Mr Roland sound designer No 1 ) used the ulitmate selection of the worlds most complex and diverse synth and audio processing tools with no cheap corners cuts.. but much more importantly made by the man who knows more about sound design and production than probably anyone else on the planet !

Its that old addage .. anyone can buy a guitar but not many sound as good as Hendrix/// Charlie Christian, Clapton.... But there again having an unlimited collection of of monster synths and outboard is not really the same either ! ha ha

Point being... you'd need a lifetimes experience in sound synthesis and sounds design combined with the ultimate studio and unlimited time to produces anything near to the quality of DR1+ 2

nuff said !
