looking for a synth like the Korg Trinity

I just finished and album and want to get some new equipment before I begin the next. Right now I am all about the Korg Trinity. I was hoping people can suggest some synths that are like (e.g. have awesome sounds of a similar style to) the trinity, but better. I am thinking about the Triton or the Motif ES but I have never used either. I am looking for something that does really big strings and pianos as well as harps and violins and similar non-electronic sounds, but one that also does big electronic stuff such as trance-y synths and phat bass lines. I don't care if it has drums or a sequencer or whatever. having a combi feature would be really helpful. I also don't need a big fancy workstation. I just want awesome dynamic sounds and good edit-ability. Preferably a rack as to keep cost down. I am looking to spend 500-800 bucks (on ebay lol) so please don't say "OMG VIRUS TI!!!!" or "OMG MODULAR". any advice is appreciated

I would look at the recent Kurzweil offerings.

Kurzweil - Products - PC2R

Their romplers are pretty top notch. They've also finally released their latest virtual analog engine as an expansion card (don't know if it works with the PC2R though). Great open sounds and pretty realistic. Better than the Trinity, but that's a matter of taste.

I used to live down the street from Jeff Dunmire. He used to work for Korg back in the day and let me play his M1 and Wavestation when I was like 12. Then he started working for Kurzweil and let me borrow his K2000 when I was around 16. That thing was AWESOME, but I couldn't afford it so I bought a Roland XP-50 instead.....BIG mistake.

Now Jeff is a big cheese at Kurzweil. He's a really nice guy. Probably solely responsible for my current synth sluttiness..........

The Triton is a great synth with awesome features. I have easilly gotten sounds huge sounds with animation I never thought possible. I am sure you can score a Tritron 61 key for a great price. Other suggestions include a Yamaha CS6x or an EX-5 that support nice strings and cool trance type sounds with MIDI sync'able arpeggiators.

Hmmm that PC2R looks like it could be perfect. Have you ever tried one out to verify that it is amazing? I've never used anything by Kurzweil. It's a bit out of my price range, but if its worth getting I wouldn't mind saving.
I've been seriously considering the triton because it seems to be the most widely available, which means the easiest to get a good price on and I've heard only good things about it. I was only able to find one EX5 on ebay, although it was only 400$ and no CS6x. I will research more into the yamahas. Thanks for the advice guys.

Korg with the Triton and beyond I believe went to become total garbage. Too many 'press one key, I'm playing a whole song' presets for Combis drive me nuts. The Korg M3 is even worse. Very disappointed to see they basically did nothing really 'cool' with KARMA 2.0 on the M3, but just made more "drum beat" presets with it.

I have a Triton with KARMA software, Trinity Rack and NS5r. If you want more "Trinity" like presets, get an NS5r. They go for about $200-$250 on EBay. They are about the best for "most stuff" in the N series that I'm aware of. 384 Combis, 384 Programs, and 128 USer presets in both that are copies of the Internal presets.

The Motif ES is not a bad choice either or even a Roland Fantom XR. At least the Motif ES and Fantom XR you can very likely still check out in the music store to see if you like them or not. Motif ES Rack shoudl be about $600-$700; Roland Fantom XR Around $700-800 and $500-$650ish for a Triton on Ebay. The more I think about it, the more I probably should just sell my Triton...
