Thread Starter | Best Chorus plugin?
Looking for some great Chorus plugs. I like Chorus build in Novation V-Station (do you know something similar and external?).

The Roland CE-1 on the UAD is pretty sick, very lush and does the best vibrato I've heard in software. You'd need the UAD obviously but then you'd get all the tasty compressors and eq's too.

I'd be curious to get input/opinions on this as well. I've got the Roland UAD chorus plugs, as well as some great sounding outboard boxes. I have not been able to find any good native AU chorus plugins (I use Logic). There are times that I need something quick, ITB, that does not induce a lot of latency. -T |

Unless you're using an old version of Logic the latency should be compensated. Logic's built in chorus isn't that bad. There is also the Waves Metaflanger, it has some nice chorus presets you can tweak.

What do you guys think about the UAD-Roland Dimension D? I just got the demo, and haven't really had the time to sort it out. On a quick initial listen it was pretty nice.

Check out Fluid by Audio Damage. It seems to find it's way into all my sessions. Their flanger (Liquid) is also the balls. My favorite would be Fluid. Plenty of mojo, sits in a mix well. It sounds great on damn near everything. Second would be the Dimension D. It does the Roland sound pretty well. Not as flexible as some of the others. Kind of a one trick pony. It's a great trick though. Third would be Metaflanger. Overall very flexible. Not a lot of wow factor. It will get the job done. It just never seems to give the 'That's the Sh*t' feeling. The rest that have been mentioned are more of 'If I had to' variety. Audio Damage :: Fluid No I am not affiliated with Audio Damage. (Or anybody really )

I don't care for Logic's built in chorus. Sounds brittle to my ears and has phase issues when played back in mono. I've got the Waves Platinum Bundle (which includes Metaflange). I find it OK for some applications, but it just doesn't sound terribly musical for many others - A bit sterile to me. Of course, I am spoiled with the sound my Eventide DSP7000's chorus.. ![]() Quote:

As others have mentioned, the UAD Roland choruses and the Audio Damage Fluid plugin are fantastic. PSP Nitro can do some decent choruses with a slightly different flavor. Pretty much every other chorus plug I've tried has sounded terrible in comparison to these.

Just bought Audio Damage's "Fluid". Very nice native chorus....... & at the price ($29 USD), it was a complete no-brainer. Thanks again for the recommendation! -T |

Tried em all and the best ones IMO are the UAD Roland plugs & The Soundtoys Echo-Boy.

| Lives for gear | Thanks - I'd worked with the style edit parameters before, but to be honest - I'd forgotten about them. While not quite the same as a traditional LFO, the Wobble, Rate, Diffusion and Size parameters (along with the various waveforms) are very cool and can create a fantastic, unique, vintage vibe (which is what EchoBoy seems to target doing more than anything else). But I have a hard time getting a really subtle, yet full/wide "modern" sounding chorus that isn't too phasey. Maybe I just need to spend more time with the plugin..EchoBoy is a creamy, smooth analog-sounding delay plug. I've gotten some really good chorus effects out of it. It does a great job at analog emulation. There are certain chorus sounds though, that I cannot get it to replicate. Audio Damage's Fluid, just filled that void for me. It's not nearly as warm & versatile as Echoboy (I can't think of any delay plugs that are) and it definitely sounds more digital, but not in a bad way. It's just a different flavor. I feel that the 2 plugs compliment each other nicely. I can't say enough good things about SoundToys. Initially, I bought the bundle because my T.C. Electronic D-Two died and I needed something I could quickly replace it with. Still want to get a dedicated hardware delay unit, but for now, Echoboy blows the T.C. out of the water. Damn good plugins! |

| It sounds great, but there are only four settings instead of a continous dial. Also the affect is a bit too strong and there is no wet/dry mix, so the only way to use it is to stick it on a bus. I wish UA would at least put a wet/dry control if not an "amount" control. Then it would be really effective.

| UAD
The UAD Boss CE-1 plugin is easily my favorite chorus. I like it better than the UAD Roland Dimension-D because it allows more automation capabilities. Also, I think it sounds more lush, while I find the Dimension-D to have more of a hollow, wider sound. They're both awesome, though.

D16s Syntorus is also another pretty good option. It is dual path, and has BBD algorithm optional. You can get some great tones out of it, or even just subtle effects. It's pretty good for doing 'trance gate' type effects.
