Casio CZ-101 power supply (wall-wart)...?

Quick question....

I have an old Casio CZ-101 here... wanted to use it as a midi keyboard controller here in a tiny room that I need to work in today.

I don't have the original wall wart. On the bottom of the CZ-101, it says "DC 9V, 5.4 watts". As an aside, the unit also takes six 1.5V batteries.

I happen to have several DC 9volt wall warts handy that FIT the CZ, but they are all more than 5.4 watts... have a 12 watt, 14 watt, etc. In the past, some folks told me that using a PS with a bit different wattage wasn't a big deal.... but I certainly do not want to fry anything. And I do not have batteries handy, so....

Thoughts? Can I use a 12 watt wart (like the one I already have here), or do I need to run out now and hunt down a 5.4 watt unit?

Thanks

It will work fine. Make sure the polarity of the wallwart plug to the Casio is correct... ie, tip=positive or tip =negative.

Hi, can you possibly tell me what the polarity of a replacement PSU should be. Should the pin be positive or negative?

Many thanks.

It should say where the barrel plugs in.

Yes it will work, but you may damage the CZ in the long run with prolonged usage. In other words, in the future, it will eventually fry something as 12v is not the correct voltage as stated on the unit itself. Is it worth the risk on a vintage synth from 1985? If it does damage the unit, it will probably cost you more to fix that what the actual board is worth. I recommend you hunt down a universal adapter at your local retailer.

Get one with a high enough amperage too. I'd say 800mA or more, less will give trouble! And see that the plug fits or even better; change the socket. The Casio plug is oddly thin and not many universal adapters will fit tightly enough.
