mixing question

when mixing, are you pulling down track levels and keep master fader at 0.0 or you move down master to keep desired level and prevent cliping and move track faders just to fit it with other tracks ?

Usually I start at -6 to -12dB and work my way up.
That's enough headroom in my book.

EDIT: Of course the master fader stays at 0.

EQ and move faders of sub channels here. Master stays at unity. If it gets to be a problem whack some soft limiting plug on the channel you want loud or on the master itself.

You could also use the gain control on the master (easier IMO).

Heh , i Know, I just like to use the Master at 0db as a reference , dont ask me why but its just easier to balance stuff this way.
