It's ugly. Specs are decent but that screen... are you kidding me? For the price they are asking there should be nothing short of VGA capability. I am very disappointed. Luckily I have a fully expanded Mv8800 to keep me happy.

I didnt know this thing would go for us$ 3500, thats way too much for what it does and certainly looks . I think Roland is still winning over akai,Lets see what is next for the MV-8800

Akai are a bunch of knobs. They are the new Roland. Rehashing old shit and marketing it to noobs.

I dont think its ugly either, but it does look plastic and cheap compared to something that cost 1k less like the Roland Mv

A few more words:
They say this on their website:
"a 20-voice, 3-oscillator analog synthesizer with arpeggiator"

I somehow have my doubts that said synth is actually analog, and if it aint, that's blatant false advertising. I really hate it when brain-dead marketing drones use the word "analog," which is an actual word, with a pretty damn unambiguous definition, to describe something that is not, in fact, by any definition of the word, analog.

Of course, if the new MPC actually does have a 20 voice analog synth in it, I'm fully prepared to eat my words, and I'll even think about getting one.

The quote that I quoted was a DIRECT quote that I copied and pasted from the website, and was the first mention on the site of the synth. The clarification must have come later. I stand by my judgement.

For $3500 that thing should an 80gb hard drive, VGA out, dvd/cd reader, analogue mono synth section a-la Radikal Spektralis, and a gushy little hole in the front that can pleasure you sexually.

I read that the corrupt U.S. army is working on a version of this that was back engineered from a crashed U.F.O. The places that technology is taking us....

I know i'm in the minority, but I preordered my MPC5000 tuesday.
I should have it between 3/31 and 4/8.
I'm just tired of my MV8000, after having it for 3.5 years. I havent used it since last summer. I miss the workflow of my MPC2000xl. nothing against the MV8000 but I hate the ad/da converters in it.... I was used to the sound of my old s3000xl (that I gave away) but recently purchased a used s5000... so hopefully I can use them both in harmony (know pun intended)
and get back into my soulful funk....lol
cant wait, I got a hard on

Just to let you know. The MV is based on a Roland S-760. So it has a killer sound to it.

just my preference.
nothing negative against the MV

I like the s3000 sound too. I had one for 6 years and made a lot of records on. It's great.

I think the MPC3000 smokes the new 5000 in sound quality.

I know there a lot of people that like the 760 and I was just letting people know that's all

i LOVE the sound of S750/760/770 and the JD series generation converters and especially their multimode filters. one of the best digital filter renditions of all time. however, that has nothing to do with the sound of Fantoms, XVs, and MVs of today. Roland has changed filter codes and D/A hardware many times since, and always for the worse.

so "MV being based on S760" is quite a stretch. its an understatement to say i hate todays Roland converter (and COSM) sound, and its thin harsh resonant filters.

that being said i havent a clue how the 5000 sounds, but seems like an overkill and overpriced to me as well. at this day n age of DAWs n all, having an MPC for 3.5k is-- insane. and i think they r little late with this onboard-VA thing. it may have made a bigger difference some 5 - 6 years ago, as market is flooded now with used VAs. so u could pick one, get a MPC1000 or 2500.. and still get away cheaper..

linn drum II might be sweet, BUT, it wont be out until the end of the year, if then.
besides, its funny how knowone has heard it, it hasnt been demoed yet, but becuase it has 2 famous names on it, its supposed to be so great.
dont get me wrong, I'll be purchasing one also. But, its just funny to me how everyone can judge the MPC5000 based off of a nerdy ass akai rep with KNOW RHYTHM, know enthusiasm, and a week ass beat.
AKAI needs someone like MIKE ACOSTA (who I believe deserves a damn raise, because he has single handedly sold the MV for ROLAND).
someone who can rock the hell out of the NEW MPC b4 showing it to the damn world.
I will be a beta tester for AKAI because i'm just plain tired of my MV8000.
it slows down my production.. its just plain slow.

I totally agree with you here.
We'll just have to wait and see.
The Akai and the Linn are two different things anyway...

Just for the record, the akai MPC 5000 will cost us$ 2500 and not $ 3500 like it was announced at Namm.

I have an Mv-8800 and Im thinking of selling it, for some reason I cant take the slow time for loading patches among other things, do the akai MPC have a faster workflow?

in the past.. yes
I have know experience with the newer
ones.... I used to own the mpc2000xl
and the workflow was was lightning fast.
the biggest mistake i ever made was
getting rid of it for the MV8000.
which is not a bad machine. its just not for me.

The Fantom and XV have nothing to do with the sound of the the MV. I telling you that the MV is the 760 engine.

The COSM effects inside the MV are great! It has the RE-201 tape delay. The dimension d chorus and many other classic effects that are spot on.
The SVR Reverbs are in there as well.

uh oh!
another MV salesperson......lol
sound is subjective.
know matter what anyone says
I PREFER THE SOUND OF THE OLD
akai S3000xl thru Z8.
those AD/DA converters and filters were the shit.
that MV is not as warm and punchy
as any of those old akai samplers... too me.

no worries.

That sucks about your basement. I'm in the process of movie to Austin Tx so, I'm shut down production wise too.

It's like going though withdrawal!
